Xarel·lo Pairal 2020 is a single-varietal white wine made from xarel·lo by Can Ràfols dels Caus, a winery located in the Garraf Massif region, at the southernmost end of the Litoral mountain range, bordered by the Penedés plains and the Mediterranean Sea; a unique and singular environment.
Xarel·lo Pairal is one of the essential white wines crafted by Carlos Esteva since 1996, a little over two decades after the winemaker and viticulturist founded the Can Ràfols Dels Caus winery. With this project, the goal was to provide the wines with a unique character and work towards gaining international recognition for the winery. This effort involved introducing new grape varieties to the area and implementing organic farming methods, all with a single objective: quality.
This wine from the D.O. Penedés is made with grapes from old vines over 65 years old, harvested manually. At the winery, a traditional fermentation process takes place, without the addition of any selected yeasts. It undergoes aging for 4-5 months in French oak barrels and spends 24 months in the bottle before being released to the market. The result is this Xarel·lo Pairal 2020, an expressive wine that stands out for its wild and highly mineral nose. Pair it with all kinds of rice dishes, seafood, roasted and grilled vegetables, and semi-cured cheeses.
Xarel·lo Pairal displays a medium golden yellow color, clean and bright.
On the nose, it surprises with its aromas of aromatic and wild plants, and its minerality. With hints of peach and apricot stone and a marzipan background.
On the palate, it is deep and broad, with great clarity and a spiced finish.
The Can Ràfols Dels Caus winery was founded in 1979 with the arrival of Carlos Esteva to his grandfather's estate of the same name. Esteva's arrival at the estate marked a revolution, as he regenerated the exploitation of its vineyards by introducing new varieties and cultivation methods aimed at achieving quality, giving the wines a unique character and the winery its own identity.
After several decades in the wine sector, Carlos Esteva continues to stand out for his extensive knowledge of the wine world. He has been nominated by the renowned Académie Internationale du vin. Additionally, he has created countless references at Can Ràfols Dels Caus and is involved in other projects such as Mas Oller in Empordà and Can Camps.
In a unique and singular environment, the wines of Can Ràfols Dels Caus are born in soils with a significant limestone mass located at the southernmost end of the Litoral mountain range, bordered by the Penedès plains and the Mediterranean Sea.
25 years after Carlos Esteva took the reins of Can Ràfols Dels Caus, he decided to build a new winery with the aim of improving operations, expanding qualitative potential, and continuing research.
Carlos Esteva seeks to produce great wines that express the nuances of their terroir. For him, exceptional wines have that something that goes beyond what we are capable of perceiving through the eyes, nose, and palate.
