Château Phélan Ségur

Château Phélan Ségur is one of the finest wineries not included in the historic 1855 Bordeaux wine classification. Located in Saint-Estèphe, in the Médoc, its origins are tied to Tipperary Bernard O'Phelan, an Irish wine merchant who settled in Bordeaux at the end of the 18th century, acquiring the properties of Clos de Garramey and Ségur de Cabanac, thus giving rise to Château Ségur de Garramey. It was not until the early 20th century that the estate adopted its current name.

Between 1985 and 2017, Château Phélan Ségur belonged to Xavier Gardiner, who also owned Lanson and Pommery Champagne. This period marked the most splendid era since its foundation. Under Gardiner's management and with the enological advice of Michel Rolland, the winery achieved a level of quality that Belgian Philippe Van de Vyvere, CEO of Sea-Invest and its new owner, is committed to maintaining.

Indeed, Château Phélan Ségur has all the ingredients to remain among the wines with the best quality-to-price ratio in Bordeaux. The starting point is the fantastic 70-hectare vineyard, rooted in clay-gravel soils, located near the Gironde estuary, a proximity that provides protection from the most extreme weather conditions, both in winter and summer.

With the fruits of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, and petit verdot that this exceptional terroir produces, Château Phélan Ségur crafts its grand vin, bearing the same name, Frank Phélan, the second label named after the estate's founder, and a third red wine, La Croix Bonis, which highlights merlot.
