Bodegas Benjamín Rothschild-Vega Sicilia

Bodegas Benjamín Rothschild-Vega Sicilia

Bodegas Benjamín de Rothschild-Vega Sicilia is the joint venture of the Compañía Vinícola Barón Edmond de Rothschild and Tempos Vega Sicilia within the D.O.Ca. Rioja. The project began to take shape in 2004 with the selection and acquisition of old vineyards. In 2013, the winery marketed its first vintage, the 2009 vintage, using a rented winery. Four years later, in 2017, it inaugurated its own facilities in Samaniego. A modern building of 10,000 square meters, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, divided into several levels to take advantage of the slope of the terrain and vinify by gravity, with a production capacity of 350,000 kg.

It has 106 hectares of tempranillo vineyards, most of which are located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, while the rest are distributed among the areas of Labastida, Navaridas, Elvillar, and Ábalos. These are vineyards with an age ranging between 32 and 38 years, situated on clay-limestone soils.

Bodegas Benjamín de Rothschild-Vega Sicilia combines tradition and innovation. Following the Bordeaux philosophy, it produces a first label: Macán, and a second: Macán Clásico.
