Professional career
From a very young age, he took responsibility for the viticulture and winemaking of his family, a task he combined with his studies in Engineering and various jobs in the field of meteorology. For six years, he was a professor of viticulture in the master's program at the University of La Rioja, and between 1988 and 1996, he worked as an independent viticulture consultant, participating in several winemaking projects. Since 1998, he has been the general manager and responsible for all areas of Bodegas Roda in La Rioja and Bodegas La Horra in Ribera del Duero. He has also served as president of ARPROVI, the Riojan Association for the Advancement of Viticulture.

He is an Agricultural Technical Engineer from the University of Zaragoza and holds a Master's degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of La Rioja.
