Marlborough is a region located in the northwest of the South Island of New Zealand. Viticulture and winemaking are among its main activities, leading the sector in the country. In fact, in the 2011 vintage, this region's production accounted for 75.4% of the national total. Viticulture has grown exponentially in recent decades due to the fame of sauvignon blanc and pinot noir, which thrive under favorable conditions in this area.
Climate
Marlborough is located in one of the three sunniest areas of New Zealand, with an average of 7 hours of sunshine per day. The climate is dry, with temperature contrasts between day and night, although somewhat cool due to the proximity to the coast. Temperatures average around 24º C in summer, and rainfall is scarce.
