It is a variety with medium-sized, compact clusters, featuring small, round berries of amber yellow color. As they ripen, they turn pinkish, hence the name. The wines it produces are subtle, with good tannic structure and longevity (even ten years later, they can retain all their properties). The aromas are floral and herbaceous, with honeyed notes. It is often blended with other varieties, such as Marsanne, to produce still or sparkling wines. It is also used with Chardonnay and Syrah, the latter softening the tannins of Roussanne and its intensity.
Weaknesses
Sensitive to powdery mildew and botrytis. It is also susceptible to damage from wind and drought.
