Crozes-Hermitage

Crozes-Hermitage is the largest appellation in the northern Rhône Valley, covering a substantial area on the left bank of the river, around the town of Tain L'Hermitage.

82% of the wines produced in this appellation are reds, with the remaining 8% being whites. The dominant grape varieties in its vineyards are syrah, followed at a considerable distance by roussanne and marsanne. Less renowned and simpler than the famous wines produced in the neighboring A.O.C. Hermitage, the wines of Crozes-Hermitage stand out for their fruity aromas and lightness on the palate, making them easy to drink.
Climate
Unlike other areas of the Rhône Valley, with a temperate Mediterranean climate, the prevailing climate in Crozes-Hermitage is influenced by a continental pattern, with wet winters and cold winds that sometimes persist until spring. In summer, this northern wind provides freshness, ideal for the vineyards.
Soil
In the eastern areas of the designation, clay and limestone soils predominate, while in the southern zones, we find alluvial and sandy soils.
