General Information

In the early 90s, Juan Carlos Vizcarra began vinifying the family’s grapes in his small winery in Mambrilla de Castrejón, Burgos. Now, Bodegas Vizcarra celebrates its quarter-century anniversary with the release of a unique wine. Vizcarra Torralvo Gran Reserva 2015 is a sensational single-varietal wine made from the finest tinto fino (tempranillo) grapes, harvested from vines over 60 years old, located at an altitude of 830 meters in the heart of Ribera del Duero.

A true reflection of Ribera’s typicity, its high-quality raw material and meticulous production, completed with 30 months of aging in new French oak barrels, make it a wine with an intoxicating nose, full-bodied, balanced, and mature, with a silky palate and a long, persistent finish. Only 1,970 bottles of this magnificent Gran Reserva, under the D.O. Ribera del Duero, were produced.

Tasting notes

Vizcarra Torralvo Gran Reserva is a cherry-colored wine with a tile-red rim, clean and bright.

Clean and intense nose where aromas of ripe black fruit, chocolate, and ground coffee stand out, along with toasted notes from the aging process.

On the palate, it is silky with an exceptional mouthfeel and a long, enduring finish.

The winery

Bodegas Vizcarra
In the line of small and prestigious wineries that carry on the heritage of the first winemakers of Ribera del Duero, we find renowned names such as Viña Sastre and others perhaps less known but equally praised by international critics, like Vizcarra. A selective winery with very well-positioned wines. The history of Bodegas Vizcarra began in 1991 under the guidance of Juan Carlos Vizcarra, its current owner and winemaker. His father, José Manuel Vizcarra, was one of the pioneers in cultivating vineyards in Ribera during the 1980s.

Convinced of the value of these vineyards, Juan Carlos began winemaking in 1991 in rudimentary facilities, producing family-tradition wines that have been refined over time to compete in the high-end market. His outstanding work in the field stands out, where he applies traditional and perfectionist viticulture. He owns 50 hectares of vineyards in the areas of Mambrilla de Castrejón and Roa de Duero (Burgos), in the heart of Ribera del Duero, cultivated with the denomination's flagship variety, tinto fino (tempranillo), along with a small proportion of international grapes.

In 2007, Vizcarra inaugurated new facilities, where all winemaking processes are carried out by gravity, thus achieving honest and concentrated wines.
