An exclusive Gran Reserva, capturing the full character of Rioja and, more specifically, of Rioja Alavesa. Viña Salceda La Tejera Gran Reserva 2018 is crafted in partnership with one of the region's most iconic bodegas, Viña Salceda, using only the fruit from its best vineyard.

Viña Salceda La Tejera Gran Reserva 2018 is an exclusive red from the D.O.Ca. Rioja designed for tables with character, one of those wines that accompany a special meal and make it even more memorable. It is made from Tempranillo, Graciano and Cariñena, with meticulous craft: small pre-fermentative maceration, fermentation at a controlled temperature and gentle extraction aimed at preserving the purity of the grape. Afterwards, it spends 32 months in oak ageing and finishes maturing in the bottle. A Gran Reserva with presence and a great sense of calm.

Derived from Finca La Tejera, in Elciego, within Rioja Alavesa, a setting well protected by the Cantabria and Demanda mountain ranges. There, old vines contribute the depth that you notice in wines with character. It is a fresh vintage, designed to go the distance, and today it is in a very pleasant moment, although it still has life ahead.

Behind is Viña Salceda, a reference winery in the area, now part of Grupo Peralada. Its way of working combines respect for the grape and precision in the winery, with a clear idea: to make serious, expressive wines with their own identity. And this one makes that clear from the first sip.

Making process

Winemaking

In Finca La Tejera, in Elciego, Viña Salceda La Tejera Gran Reserva 2018 is produced with a very careful vinification, where the sorting table and gravity-driven winemaking aim to preserve the purity of Tempranillo, Graciano and Cariñena; after a brief pre-fermentation maceration, the wine ferments at a controlled temperature and, throughout the process, a gentle extraction is encouraged by manual remontages, keeping the must in cuvaison for 15 to 18 days before pressing.

The result in the winery is a precise elaboration, designed to respect the fruit’s personality and to build a red with great finesse. A sober and meticulous effort.

The winery

Viña Salceda
Winery
Winemaker
With over forty years of history, Viña Salceda perfectly captures the story of the first wine revolution in modern Rioja. It is considered one of the wineries responsible for the global explosion of our most internationally renowned denomination of origin. In the past decade of the 1990s, ownership passed into the hands of the Chivite family, an illustrious Navarrese family who, with the acquisition of Viña Salceda, extended their domain to Rioja. Recently, it has been acquired by the Perelada group.

Viña Salceda is located in the municipality of Elciego (Álava), one of the nerve centers of Rioja Alavesa, internationally known for the prestige of its wines. Here, it oversees 40 hectares of vineyards. The queen of the vineyard is the tempranillo grape. The versatile climate of this Rioja subzone, alternating between continental and non-extreme Atlantic influences, allows the vineyard to enjoy unique conditions. Its soils have a dominant clay-limestone composition.
