General Information

Viña Pomal Club Reserva 2021 is the most refined and exclusive expression of one of Rioja's most iconic labels. Born in the heart of Haro, at the historic estate of Bodegas Bilbaínas, this wine represents the union between centuries-old tradition and contemporary enological precision. It is crafted only in vintages that have achieved high quality, such as the 2019 vintage, rated as Excellent, ensuring a natural balance between ripeness, freshness, and aging potential. Its estate wine character, sourced from its own vineyards, gives it a unique identity within the classic Rioja style.

The production of Viña Pomal Club Reserva 2021 follows a philosophy of respect for origin and time. The coupage of tempranillo and graciano is carefully vinified, and its 18-month aging in American oak barrels allows the wine to refine without losing its authenticity. This special edition, exclusively reserved for Vinoselección members, is a tribute to the history of a winery that has been producing wines in the same place for over a century, with the same dedication to excellence. It is a wine that does not aim to follow trends but to perpetuate a legacy: that of the great Rioja reservas that age with nobility and are enjoyed with emotion.

At the table, it will be the ideal companion for dishes such as veal meatballs jardinière or peppered entrecôte.

Tasting notes

Cherry red in color with garnet and ruby hues.

On the nose, it is fine, elegant, and complex, with aromas of ripe red fruit accompanied by spicy, smoky, and toasted notes; and a floral background.

On the palate, it shows excellent balance. It is flavorful and pleasant; its passage through the mouth is aromatic and fresh. Enveloping with a finish of good persistence.

The winery

Bodegas Bilbaínas

Located in the famous wine region of the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, Bodegas Bilbaínas is one of the historic and benchmark wineries in Rioja. Its origins date back to 1859, when the Bordeaux house Savignon Frères et Cie, fleeing the phylloxera plague, settled in Haro to produce and export wine to France. In 1901, a group of entrepreneurs from Bilbao acquired the facilities, also building a new and monumental winery with underground cellars. Thus, the Bodegas Bilbaínas company was definitively established.

In a short time, its wines gained a strong reputation. So much so that in 1925, this house was honored with the title of Supplier to the Royal Household and Heritage. In 1997, the winery became part of the Grupo Codorníu, undergoing a profound renovation of its facilities and vineyards, as well as a modernization of its wine styles.

Today, Bodegas Bilbaínas boasts an exceptionally extensive estate-owned vineyard in La Rioja: 250 hectares spread across the Haro region, within the subzone of Rioja Alta; and it has enviably solid brands that encompass different styles: from the most classic Viña Pomal, to La Vicalanda (Alta Expresión) and the more modern and youthful Viña Zaco.
