Viña Caeira 2023 bets on the purity of the Albariño from Rías Baixas and the Atlantic freshness of the Condado de Tea. It is intense, elegant and bears the seal of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera.

Viña Caeira 2023 is an albariño with D.O. Rías Baixas born in the Condado do Tea. Its production is very careful: hand harvest in 12 kg boxes, slow fermentation at low temperature and an ageing on lees of around 4 months that rounds the whole without losing freshness.

The character of Viña Caeira 2023 is also understood from Finca Pesqueiras, in Salvaterra de Miño, a vineyard of 2.2 hectares with traditional pergola training over granite porticoes. Its granitic, loamy sandy soils, with clay and mica, together with the Atlantic influence, shape a robust albariño of tension, balance and that salinity so typical of the area.

Behind it is the project of Carlos Moro, who in 2022 propelled this winery with a clear idea: to care for the estate and to bring the Albariño grape to the fore. The result is a wine with identity, honest and very gastronomic, designed to be enjoyed slowly and with good company.

Making process

Vintage

The Albariño grapes were harvested by hand in 12 kg crates, adapting to the estate's characteristic trellis system to pick the fruit with care and take it to the winery in the best possible condition.

Winemaking

Viña Caeira 2023 is produced with a winemaking approach designed to preserve the purest expression of the Albariño, through a slow fermentation at low temperatures that promotes the preservation of its aromas and keeps the wine's freshness intact; after fermentation, it remains on its lees for approximately four months, a stage that provides greater balance between acidity, freshness and body without losing its Atlantic profile. The result is a precise, sober style faithful to the fruit.

Aging

Viña Caeira 2023 extends its elaboration with lees ageing of approximately 4 months after a slow fermentation at low temperatures, a stage designed to achieve a balance between acidity, freshness and body.

110,000 bottles were produced.

Vineyard

Description

Viña Caeira 2023 is sourced from a very specific estate in Salvaterra de Miño, in the Condado do Tea, where the 2.2 hectares of Albariño grow in trellised vines trained over granite trellises. The vines, planted in 2005 and around 20 years old, sit on granitic soils, sandy loam, rich in clay and mica, with Quaternary alluvial deposits and abundant recent sediments, at an altitude between 150 and 300 metres above sea level. The pergola raises the vegetation to between 1.70 and 2.10 metres, optimising maximum sunlight capture and keeping the vines away from soil moisture, in an area with strong oceanic influence that helps to preserve the wine’s freshness and balance.

Age

It is a relatively young Albariño vineyard, with vines of approximately 20 years old.

Climate

The Finca Pesqueiras, in Condado do Tea, benefits from a strong maritime influence that marks the Atlantic character of this Albariño. Humidity and cloudy days are common, and that is why the pergola trellis lifts the vegetation to capture more sunlight and keep the bunches airy. It is a fresh vineyard. And very well sheltered.

Viticulture

Viña Caeira 2023 comes from traditional, carefully tended viticulture, adapted to the Atlantic character of Condado do Tea, where the Albariño vines grow on pergolas tied to granite trellises. This cultivation system allows maximising sunlight, keeps the bunches aerated and the vine away from soil moisture, enabling precise work on the estate.

Tasting notes

View

Pale straw colour with golden hues, clean and bright.

Nose

The nose is frank and direct, with good intensity. Very bright citrus notes emerge. Green apple and apricot are also evident. A tropical hint of passion fruit soon appears. The background is enhanced by a vegetal fennel note and a touch of menthol, all coming together in a persistent and balanced whole.

Mouth

Its palate is broad and balanced, with a good mid-palate where fruity and vegetal notes come together perfectly, delivering freshness, body and a harmonious feel. A flavoursome and persistent finish.
