The preservation of Galician native varieties, some almost extinct, is one of the hallmarks of Bodegas Valdesil, a key winery in the thriving D.O. Valdeorras. Valteiro 2021 faithfully embodies this commitment.
The María Ardoña vineyards that gave rise to Valteiro 2021 were planted in 1985 by Francisco Prada Gayoso, founder and owner of Bodegas Valdesil. The purpose of their cultivation was none other than to achieve a robust red wine that perfectly combines the elegance inherent to the variety with the distinctive minerality of the slate slopes of Portela, the small village it originates from. This is precisely the essence of this wine that the Club brings to you. An exceptional example of typicity and terroir.
Valteiro muestra complejos aromas de hermosos frutos rojos silvestres entremezclados con delicadas notas herbáceas, cuerpo medio a pleno con taninos medios y mineralidad única.
Valdesil has been one of the key players in the recovery of Godello in Galicia, an excellent native variety capable of competing in quality with any white grape in our country. The winery, located in Córgomo, in the municipality of Vilamartín de Valdeorras in Ourense, has uniquely harnessed the slate slopes of the region, which are responsible for the unmistakable minerality of the wines from this area.
Valdesil is owned by the third generation of the Prada Gayoso family, a family with a long winemaking tradition that, just over a decade ago, decided to recover all the "pezas" (plots) of Godello that had belonged to them in the past. In just a few years and through hard work, the winery has established itself as one of the most important wine producers in the D.O. Valdeorras, with its influence extending to Bierzo with remarkable success. The responsibility for the winery's production lies with the Prada Gayoso family, supported externally by Cristina Mantilla in oenology and José Ramón Lissarrague in viticulture.
