Valleyglesias A2 2022 is a white wine made from albillo real vines, an indigenous grape variety of the D.O. Vinos de Madrid. At an altitude of 730-780 meters, in the vineyards of Bodega ValdeYglesias in El Andrinoso (San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Sierra de Gredos), the grapes that create this wine find the ideal conditions to express all their purity and typicity. The result is a glyceric white with great aromatic intensity, which presents a velvety mouthfeel, with honeyed notes and a long finish.

General Information

The Albillo Real grape has been used for centuries in the production of great white wines from Madrid like this Valleyglesias A2 2022. Originating from vineyards located in the southern area of San Martín de Valdeiglesias (Sierra de Gredos), with northwest orientation and eroded granite soils, the fruits for its production were selected from two plots: Canto del Corzo, with stony soil, at 730 meters altitude; and Los Marañones, settled on sandy soils, at 780 meters.

Bodegas Valleyglesias is a family venture by brothers Fernando and Luis Ocaña that combines wine, gastronomy, and music in San Martín de Valdeiglesias (Madrid). The winery has 11 hectares of vineyards, mostly old and low-yielding, of the varieties garnacha, albillo real, and moscatel de grano menudo. These vines are cultivated on granite and sandy soils, and are located at an altitude between 600 and 1200 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Sierra de Gredos. With a philosophy based on fieldwork, respect for nature, and a low-interventionist approach, the Madrid-based firm produces unique wines that reflect the essence of their terroir.

The vinification process of Valleyglesias A2 2022 is characterized by a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 24 hours before pressing. After a 24-hour rest and fermentation with native yeasts, the wine is transferred to steel tanks for 5 months with weekly lees stirring. The result is a white wine with a clean nose, featuring floral and honeyed notes, distinguished by its velvety mouthfeel and long finish. An expressive wine under the D.O. Vinos de Madrid with a limited production of 5000 bottles.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Bodegas Valleyglesias is much more than a winery; it is the project of brothers Fernando and Luis Ocaña, with the active involvement of their father Fernando in the viticultural aspect, combining wine, gastronomy, and music in San Martín de Valdeiglesias (Madrid).

Affiliated with the D.O. Vinos de Madrid in 2002, the same year it launched its first creations on the local market, the winery boasts a great family winemaking tradition and a heritage of 11 hectares of vineyards of garnacha, albillo real, and moscatel de grano menudo. The vines, mostly old and low-yielding, are planted in granitic and sandy soils, at an altitude ranging between 600 and 1,200 meters above sea level, in the Sierra de Gredos. Work in the vineyard, guided by respect for the environment, and a minimally interventionist winemaking process result in unique wines that aim to reflect the essence of the native varieties that define them and their terroir of origin.
