Valdelosfrailes Crianza 2020 is the reflection of a land that has managed to reinvent itself without losing its essence: Cigales. It is a wine with soul, balance, and character that captivates from the first sip and bears the hallmark of one of the great Spanish wineries: Bodegas Familiares Matarromera.
Valdelosfrailes Crianza 2020 is one of the star red wines of Valdelosfrailes, a winery located in the Valladolid municipality of Cubillas de Santa Marta -D.O. Cigales- that belongs to one of the most renowned winery groups in Spain, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. Its excellent facilities are surrounded by well-tended vineyards, where the main variety of the area, tempranillo or tinta fina, predominates.
Valdelosfrailes Crianza 2020 is an elegant, profound wine full of nuances that has elevated the name of its land to the highest level. Made with tempranillo from its own vineyards and aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels, it is a tribute to the authenticity and character of a region that now stands shoulder to shoulder with giants like Ribera del Duero or Toro. Born from poor, stony soils where the vine struggles to survive, this Crianza concentrates the best of itself.
Valdelosfrailes Crianza 2020 will be a perfect companion for warm salads, soups, legumes, carpaccio of meat, lamb, aged cheeses, and poultry stews.
Tasting notes
Deep cardinal color with intense purplish hues.
Clear aromas of black fruit, with the pleasant minerality of the parcels it comes from, in perfect balance with touches of lactones, roasted coffee, and licorice from American oak, complemented by spices from the softly toasted French oak barrels.
On the palate, it is fresh, with lively acidity and black fruit, accompanied by roasted and spicy notes, with a mineral background and a slight smokiness. Great complexity, elegant finish, intense and persistent.
Sponsored by the family winemaking tradition in the D.O. Cigales, Carlos Moro (Bodegas Familiares Matarromera) founded Bodega Valdelosfrailes in the Valladolid municipality of Cubillas de Santa Marta. From its inception, the winery broke with the winemaking tradition of classic claretes to focus on high-quality wines, vinified primarily with the main variety of the region, the tempranillo, which thrives so well along the Duero river. Bodega Valdelosfrailes owns 60 hectares of its own vineyards and controls an additional 70 hectares.
