Carlos Moro (Bodegas Familiares Matarromera) wanted to start up a winery in the D.O. Cigales, where his family had a long winemaking tradition. Bodega Valdelosfrailes accordingly came into being in 1998, a firm that designs wines with the elegance that’s the company's hallmark. Valdelosfrailes Crianza 2019 was grown in their own Tempranillo vineyards located in Cubillas de Santa Marta and Quintanilla de Trigueros, very close to the winery.
These are plots of limestone soils with pebbles that infuse the wines with mineral notes. In addition, the vines endure long periods of water stress in summer, which results in very low yields but of high quality. This red wine was finally aged for 12 months in barrels and matured for a further 12 months in the bottle before its release.
Bodega Valdelosfrailes is part of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, one of Spain's foremost winemaking groups, founded and headed by Carlos Moro as president. With this winery Carlos Moro has fulfilled his desire to make wine in Cigales, the land where his ancestors were already involved in winegrowing. Valdelosfrailes launched its first wines on the market at the end of the 1990s, based on an excellent vineyard and Tempranillo grapes. Today, this winery is a leading name in the D.O. Cigales.
Valdelosfrailes Crianza 2019 (D.O. Cigales) goes beautifully with lentil stew.
