Val do Galir Godello 2025 originates from grapes grown in the plot classified as A Malosa, owned by Virgen del Galir, the winery belonging to CVNE in the D.O. Valdeorras. A superb white, aged for 5 months on fine lees in various vessels.
Val do Galir Godello 2025 (formerly called Pagos del Galir) is the flagship wine of Virgen del Galir, one of the most interesting wineries in the D.O. Valdeorras. The Godello grapes used in its production come from the A Malosa estate, a 21-hectare vineyard located in the Don Fiz area, in the Ourense village of Éntoma. A unique terroir situated between 400 and 600 metres above sea level, with a wide variety of soils that impart great complexity to the grapes.
Founded in 2002 by José Barros García and his son David, Virgen del Galir is now a well-established Galician winery, thanks to the excellent reviews of its wines. Notably, in 2009, the renowned critic Robert Parker included one of their Godellos among the top 100 Spanish whites under 25 euros. The value for money of their wines is truly unbeatable.
Val do Galir Godello 2025 is a prime example, a single-varietal with a 5-month ageing on fine lees in stainless steel tanks, barrels, and foudres, which impresses with its fullness, freshness, and persistence.

Vineyard
Description
Val do Galir Godello 2025 is made solely from Godello grapes from the A Malosa vineyard, in the Don Fiz area, in Éntoma, where the vines are planted at an altitude between 400 and 600 metres on calcareous-loam and granite soils. This terroir, with its great soil diversity, adds complexity and a pronounced Atlantic personality to the wine, reflecting the most authentic character of Valdeorras.
Tasting notes
View
Val do Galir attracts the eye with its beautiful yellow-green colour and high brilliance.
Nose
On the nose, it is delicate, Atlantic, and mineral, with subtle floral notes, herbs typical of the undergrowth, and hints of fresh citrus fruits.
Mouth
The sensation in the mouth is vibrant, persistent, and silky, and the wine displays a magnificent structure and a pleasurable volume due to the work on the lees.
The origin of the winery Virgen del Galir (2002) is entirely family-based: it was founded by José Barros García who, together with his son David, has championed for years the magic of Valdeorras wines, both those made from godello and the -rarer- reds from mencía. The excellent work of the Barros family (in 2009 Robert Parker included one of their godellos in the top 100 best Spanish white wines under €25 and awarded it 90 points) caught the attention of the CVNE Group, which acquired the winery in 2017 with the aim of giving it the definitive push towards the pinnacle of Galician wines.
The Virgen del Galir winery is located in Éntoma, in O Barco de Valdeorras, in the eastern part of the province of Ourense. There it has 40 hectares of vineyards planted on terraces at over 600 m altitude, some of them old and inherited from previous generations of the Barros family.
