The godello variety has established itself as one of the most appreciated white grapes in Spain, and Valdeorras represents its most emblematic territory. Val do Galir Godello 2024 (93 Parker points), produced by the Virgen del Galir winery, comes from the unique A Malosa estate, located in the heart of the valley and characterized by the diversity of its soils. It undergoes 7 months of aging in a combination of French oak barrels and foudres. On the palate, it stands out for its structure and volume, typical of godello, accompanied by a vibrant acidity that brings freshness to the whole.

Val do Galir Godello 2024, made exclusively from godello grapes, comes from the A Malosa estate, one of the most unique vineyards of the Virgen del Galir winery. Covering an area of 21 hectares, this estate is located in Éntoma, within the Don Fiz area, in the heart of the Galir valley. Its uniqueness lies in the diversity of its soils: to the east, slate schists predominate, very poor and demanding for the vines; to the west, the soils are more silty and clayey, contributing distinct nuances to the wine. The vines are cultivated on terraces situated between 400 and 600 meters of altitude, with southern and northern exposures.
Harvesting is done manually in 15 kg boxes, followed by cold maceration of the grapes in a refrigerated chamber before fermentation. Direct pressing is applied with low pressures. The resulting wine undergoes 7 months of aging in a combination of French oak barrels and foudres.
Virgen del Galir is a project initiated by CVNE in 2017, aiming to showcase the expression of godello in its land of origin, Valdeorras. The winery is located in one of the two or three warmest valleys in Spain: Val do Galir, in the town of Éntoma, in the eastern part of Valdeorras (Ourense), although it benefits from the proximity of the Galir river.
Here, the winery owns 40 hectares of vineyards planted on terraces at over 600 meters of altitude, some of which are old and inherited from the previous owners, the Barros family. The vines grow in different types of soils, and the winery seeks the best expression of godello in each of them.
The white wine Val do Galir Godello 2024 (D.O. Valdeorras) is ideal to pair with baked sea bass with shallots and zucchini.
The origin of the winery Virgen del Galir (2002) is entirely family-based: it was founded by José Barros García who, together with his son David, has championed for years the magic of Valdeorras wines, both those made from godello and the -rarer- reds from mencía. The excellent work of the Barros family (in 2009 Robert Parker included one of their godellos in the top 100 best Spanish white wines under €25 and awarded it 90 points) caught the attention of the CVNE Group, which acquired the winery in 2017 with the aim of giving it the definitive push towards the pinnacle of Galician wines.
The Virgen del Galir winery is located in Éntoma, in O Barco de Valdeorras, in the eastern part of the province of Ourense. There it has 40 hectares of vineyards planted on terraces at over 600 m altitude, some of them old and inherited from previous generations of the Barros family.
