Usted 2019 is a high-quality and elegant Catalan red wine that stands out for its subtle nose and silky taste. A magnificent blend of Garnacha Tinta (60%) and Syrah (40%) from organic farming, each variety is subjected to a meticulous aging process of 36 months in French oak barrels by the Terra Remota team.
This wine is fermented at a low temperature, and the malolactic fermentation takes place in wooden vats. It undergoes a differentiated aging process where the Syrah is aged in new 225-liter barrels for 36 months, while the Garnacha spends the same time in 500-liter barrels of 1 or 2 uses. The result is a complex and elegant wine to enjoy on a special occasion today or over the next 10 years.
Amid landscapes of granitic soils in the Empordà region, at the foothills of the Albera range, Marc and Emma Bournazeau, a French couple of Spanish origin, founded in 2006 one of the most interesting wineries in all of Catalonia. Terra Remota has an estate of over 40 hectares in the Terra Alta of Girona, where they cultivate 23 hectares of vineyards with the utmost respect for nature, validated by organic farming certification in 2012.
With a very limited production, Usted 2019 is a red wine from the D.O. Empordà, ideal for grand occasions. It pairs perfectly with red meats such as roasted or grilled veal and beef, and is an excellent choice to accompany seasoned game dishes and aged cheeses.
Bright garnet red color with cocoa reflections.
Intense and fine nose, with ripe black fruits, truffle, cocoa, sweet spices, vanilla, and smoky touches with notes of cherry in brandy. Complex and elegant.
On the palate, it is very fine and complex, with aromas of ripe black and red fruits, spices, truffle, and cocoa over a mineral background. Elegant and delicate finish.
Bodegas Terra Remota is the winery of Marc and Emma Bournezeau, a couple of French origin but with Catalan roots (Emma's grandfather went into exile in France after the Spanish Civil War). For the family, the winery represents a return to their origins and the recovery of a lost identity. In the year 2000, they acquired some land in Empordà after realizing the excellent conditions the area offered for producing quality wines. Thus, in 2006, the family winery was founded.
The winery is located in the northeasternmost corner of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Alt Empordà region (Girona), within the D.O. Empordà. It is a unique, solitary place, a remote land, as the winery's name suggests, situated between the villages of Capmany and Sant Climent Sescebes. A modern building designed by Pepe Cortés alongside architect Nacho Ferrero, perfectly integrated with the terrain and conceived with a focus on environmental respect, technical functionality, contemporaneity, and transparency. These are the concepts that underpin their elegant and fresh wines, which clearly prioritize quality, respect for raw materials, and personalization.
The winery has an estate of 40 hectares at the foothills of the pre-Pyrenees with soils of sauló and granite. This is an interesting terrain for viticulture because, while it is not very fertile, it allows for excellent drainage.
Terra Remota operates under a philosophy of respect for the environment and nature. This is also evident in the farming practices they use to craft their excellent wines, through the organic cultivation of their vineyards.
Across the 12 well-differentiated plots of the estate, they cultivate red and white varieties of all kinds. These range from traditional varieties in the Empordà area such as Garnacha Tinta, Garnacha Blanca, and Tempranillo, to French varieties like Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay, including an experimental plot with Chenin Blanc.
