Tres Almas Crianza 2020 is a seductive red wine created 100% with the native Prieto Picudo grape, and aged 12 months in French oak barrels. Its name, which means "3 Souls", alludes to the three "subjects" involved in wine: the winegrower, the winemaker and the consumers.
The Prieto Picudo grape is one of the native varieties that in recent years has been recovered for quality wines. It is the queen variety of the D.O. León (2007), where it occupies 69% of the cultivated vineyard area, and provides wines with an intense aromatic profile, tannic power and acidity. Traditionally intended for rosés, more and more wineries are betting on its potential for the production of red wines. Among them is Bodegas Peláez, undoubtedly one of the firms that works best with this varietal.
A great family tradition, Bodegas Peláez is run by Ángel Peláez, third generation. Over almost a century, the Peláez family has been transforming their traditional winery in Grajal de la Ribera into a large winery, where new production techniques are combined with traditional practices. The winery consists of two facilities: the traditional underground one, built in the 50s, where the wine is made; and others of new construction, where bottling, labelling and storage are done.
Its production is around 250,000 bottles per year and all of them remain in the national market. These are wines that are characterised by their balance between fruit and wood, seeking a pleasant palate devoid of edges.
Tres Almas Crianza 2020 (D.O. León) is ideal to accompany pickled partridge or hearty spoon dishes.
Tres Almas tinto Prieto Picudo 2020, is a seductive red wine, which reveals the power of the León area. Made 100% with the Prieto Picudo variety, which offers pleasant and intense aromas of red and black fruit. This is a mature and direct wine, with an elegant fruity prominence, silky tannins and a long and lasting finish.
Bodegas Peláez (Grajal de la Ribera, León) has a great family tradition behind it. Now led by Ángel Peláez, 3rd generation, it was in the 1920s of the last century when his grandfather Baltasar Peláez began with the ancient trade of arriero: he made wine that he later transported by cart and mules for sale in the mountains of León. With the help of his children, Baltasar built an underground winery in 1950, where the Peláez family continues to produce their wines to this day. In 2004, the family expanded the facilities with the construction of a new winery for bottling and aging.
Bodegas Peláez produces white, rosé, and red wines, preserving the essence of the three varieties they work with: prieto picudo, verdejo, and albarín. They have 7 hectares of their own vineyards and control an additional 42 hectares. With this raw material, they produce the 4 brands that make up their portfolio: the white Airad, Senoel (available in rosé and young red versions), 3 Almas (the only aged red wine), and the innovative Nanay, a semi-sweet white made from prieto picudo. In total, they produce 250,000 bottles annually, destined entirely for the national market.
