Cigales is, par excellence, the great Spanish wine region of rosés. From there we’ve chosen Traslanzas Rosado 2023. The result of a combination of Tempranillo and white Albillo grapes (15%), each vintage has been a success. A wine dominated by fresh red fruit with minty and floral aromas, with structure and good length on the palate. Perfect to drink now.

Traslanzas Rosado 2022 is made from Tempranillo (85%) and the white Albillo (15%) variety. The grapes come from vines more than 30 years old and were picked by hand. The destemmed grapes were transferred to stainless steel vats, where the must was macerated with the skins for 4 hours. This was followed by bleeding off to obtain a high-quality must without using pressure. The skins filter the must, which passes through them and takes on a clear appearance, making clarification unnecessary and enhancing the wine’s aromas.
Rosés are in fashion: consumers have at last acknowledged these wines as a fresh, fun and, above all, quality alternative. Rosés have always been the preferred and main type of wines produced in Cigales. Here the best vineyards are given over to making these wines – one of the main differences with other wine regions.
María Pinacho belongs to the third generation of winemakers in Mucientes (Valladolid), where Traslanzas was the name given to an old vineyard planted in 1945. In 1998 she decided to make wine from her family's old vineyards. The surprise is that the first Traslanzas that appeared on the market in 2000 is a red wine and not a rosé, as might be expected of a Cigales firm. She and her winegrowing husband Carlos González went straight into top gear in 2018 and today they market three rosés, two reds and a white from the Cigales DO.
Traslanzas Rosado 2023 (D.O. Cigales) goes beautifully with smoked salmon or rice dishes with chicken or rabbit.
The must underwent alcoholic fermentation at a low temperature, 14º C, to bring out and preserve the varietal aromas characterised chiefly by red fruit (strawberry and raspberry), together with hints of mint and white flowers. Attractive redcurrant colour of good intensity, it has a fresh palate with lots of fullness and body, good length and a finish full of aromas that linger on.
Traslanzas Bodegas y Viñedos is the project of the viticulturist Carlos González López and the winemaker María Pinacho. Founded in 1998, this winery produces a small selection of unique wines that reflect the region they come from. Elegant wines made to be enjoyed, sourced exclusively from the 23 hectares of vineyards owned by the winery. Currently, the winery produces rosé and red wines, both young and aged in barrels.
