Torelló Brut Nature 2019 is a magnificent sparkling wine from the Torelló house, crafted with a blend of the finest grapes from the xarel·lo, macabeo, and parellada varieties from their own vineyards located in the family estate of Can Martí.
Torelló is a family winery that was established in 1951 when Francesc Torello i Casanovas decided to start bottling his wines, as he is part of a family linked to the wine world since the 14th century. Currently, the winery boasts an exceptional estate of 135 hectares, where they cultivate both native and foreign varieties organically. Among the white grapes, they grow macabeo, xarel·lo, parellada, chardonnay, and subirat parent. In the red grape varieties, they have cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, and syrah.
With organic farming, the grapes are harvested manually and quickly transported to the presses, where a gentle pressing is done separately depending on the variety. The resulting must is fermented with their own wild yeasts. Subsequently, a minimum aging of 50 months in the bottle is carried out, with manual clarification in the last stage on racks and disgorging without the addition of sugars. The result is Torelló Brut Nature 2019, a great sparkling wine ideal for accompanying smoked dishes, fish, meats in sauce, foie, and cured cheeses.
Torelló Brut Nature boasts a straw yellow color, clean and transparent, with fine and constant bubbles forming a rosary.
On the nose, it highlights white fruits, such as pear, over a well-marked note of brioche, caramel flan, pastry cream, and candied fruit.
Fresh and delicate entry on the palate. Its passage is dry, with the presence of fresh herbs where white flowers stand out. Notes of brioche and cream appear, making a very pleasant finish.
The family history begins in the year 1395 at the Can Martí estate and its farmhouses. And it will be 22 generations later, in the year 1951, when the surname Torelló appears, one of the reference families in the cava sector in our country.
The Can Martí estate is the nerve center of Torelló's vineyards and cellars, located in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, considered by all as the heart and capital of cava.
The Can Martí estate covers 135 hectares in the fertile Penedès region. It cultivates white grape varieties such as macabeo, xarel·lo, parellada, chardonnay, and subirat parent, as well as red grape varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, and syrah.
For the production of cavas, Torelló selects only vines over 30 years old. This is done to ensure consistency and quality in the harvest.
The soils have a clay-limestone mix and are poor in organic matter. Pruning is done short to control vineyard yield and grape quality. As for the climate, it is typically Mediterranean, with an average temperature of 16 ºC and rainfall concentrated in spring and autumn.
For less than a decade, the Torelló winery has begun a process of converting its vineyards to organic viticulture, but in truth, they have been practicing environmentally friendly methods for many more years.
