From the D.O. Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Santiago Arroyo presents an exceptional Tempranillo with 30 months of ageing in American and French oak, from an Excellent harvest.

While many Reservas seek to impress with intensity and power, Tinto Arroyo Reserva 2019 prefers to speak quietly and leave a subtle mark over time. The flagship wine of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, this Tempranillo is born from a careful selection and spends 30 months in American and French oak barrels. That time is reflected in its serene profile and the sense of a well-crafted wine that invites you to linger at the table a little longer.

It comes from vineyards located in Sotillo de la Ribera, at an altitude between 900 and 950 metres, in an environment of pinewoods and underbrush that imparts character to the grape. This combination of altitude and landscape results in a raw material with great personality, perfect for a classic-leaning, firm, and highly refined red.

Bodegas Santiago Arroyo creates a wine with its own identity and a meticulous approach to production. Tinto Arroyo Reserva 2019 is one of those wines that pair beautifully with long meals, especially with roast lamb or large baked beans with sacramentos.

Vineyard

Description

Tinto Arroyo Reserva 2019 comes from vineyards located in Sotillo de la Ribera, where plots and old vines coexist with wild pinewoods and Mediterranean undergrowth at altitudes between 900 and 950 metres. This viticultural base, set within a characterful environment, provides the raw material used to craft a Tempranillo selected to produce a wine with a delicate profile, structured and well-balanced.

Climate

The vineyards grow in Sotillo de la Ribera, in the northernmost and highest part of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, at an altitude between 900 and 950 metres. This high-altitude environment promotes slow ripening and helps maintain the freshness of the grape.

Tasting notes

View

Deep garnet red with very pronounced teardrop rim, presenting itself clear, bright, and of medium-high opacity.

Nose

On the nose, it displays hints of stewed fruit, complemented by nuances of leather, soft tobacco, roasted notes, and coffees, in a combination that reflects its crianza and its profile as a serious, expressive wine.

Mouth

The wine fills the palate with a highly polished structure and a balanced profile. Notes of balsamic and bakery aromas emerge, complemented by flavours of red fruits. In the finish, subtle touches of nuts, such as hazelnuts and bitter almonds, are evident. The final is magnificent, broad, and persistent.

The winery

Bodegas Santiago Arroyo

Bodegas Santiago Arroyo was founded in 1960 as an association of several winegrowers from Sotillo de la Ribera. In 1994, Santiago Arroyo, the son of a winegrower and winemaker from this locality, took over the reins of the winery and initiated a renovation of the facilities. Thus began the modern history of the winery, now recognized for the consistency of its wines. Today, at over eighty years old, Santiago Arroyo continues to care for his vineyards, totaling 90 hectares divided into 14 different plots, all located in Sotillo de la Ribera and cultivated with tempranillo, the queen grape of Ribera del Duero.

The tempranillo, under the extreme climate conditions of the region, produces wines with the acidity and structure suitable for long aging. Most of Santiago Arroyo's vineyards grow on the sunny banks of the Duero River valley, at altitudes ranging from 920 m to 820 m in the lower vineyards. The diversity of soils hosting the vineyards is reflected in the aromas and flavors of the wines. Each vineyard, depending on its characteristics, is dedicated to a specific type of wine. Rosés and young wines are made from vineyards on deep soils that maintain good acidity; aged reds are crafted from vineyards on clay-limestone soils; and reservas from the most calcareous soils. The gran reserva is only produced in certain vintages.
