General Information

Cuvée Constance 2020 is 50% Garnacha, 30% Syrah and 20% Cariñena. It comes from vines between 4 and 40 years old on average that grow in schist soils. The grapes were picked by hand and selected manually in the vineyard and again on sorting tables inside the winery. Following a traditional vinification process – without clarifying or filtering – the wine was aged for 14 months in concrete vats.

The result is a red with abundant notes of red and black berries, spices, leather and subtle herby notes. Well-rounded and balanced palate.

When he visited Rosellón in 2000, Jean-Luc Thunevin discovered marvellous terroirs and was fascinated by the region. Around the same time he met Jean-Roger Calvet, a local winemaker. Together they decided to buy a few hectares of vineyards in the marvellous black schist terroirs of Maury, where they established Domaine Thunevin-Calvet, which produced its first vintage in 2001. Cuvée ‘Constance’ is dedicated to Jean-Roger’s daughter.

Cuvée Constance 2020 (Côtes du Roussillon Villages) is best with hearty dishes such as roast suckling pig.

The winery

Jean-Luc Thunevin was one of the great protagonists of French wine during the turn of the millennium. In the mid-90s, the American guru Robert Parker put him in the spotlight by labeling him as the enfant terrible of Bordeaux wine, subsequently scoring his Château Valandraud above legends like Pétrus. A few years later, in 2000, a trip to Roussillon changed his life forever. The love affair with this southeastern French region led him to acquire some hectares of vineyard alongside local producer Jean Roger Calvet and to found Domaine Thunevin-Calvet. Domaine Thunevin-Calvet is located in Maury, on black schist terrain, and its first vintage was produced in 2001.
