General Information

Thanks to our friendship with the Martínez Bujanda family, we’re able to offer you exclusively Terruños de Valpiedra Reserva 2016, made from a selection of the best batches intended for the firm’s top wine, Finca Valpiedra Reserva – a real privilege. It comes from a particularly good vintage of grapes grown on the spectacular Finca Valpiedra, chiefly Tempranillo grapes but with a skilful touch of Graciano and Maturana Tinta that distinguish it from other traditional Riojas.

Twenty-four months in French oak have resulted in a great terroir wine that reflects the work and knowhow of the Martínez Bujanda family.

In 1999 the Martínez Bujanda family founded one of the most renowned wineries highly regarded by wine lovers on an estate between the municipalities of Cenicero and Fuenmayor that boasts an outstanding vineyard beside the winery building, in the style of a French chateau. This unique estate, located at one of the most spectacular bends in the river Ebro where it flows through Rioja, is planted with 80 hectares of vines with an average age of nearly 50 years.

The vines are divided into 15 plots distributed in three terraces of sandy-loam soils with a high proportion on pebbles, after which the estate is named. Owing to its outstanding nature, Finca Valpiedra belongs to the prestigious association of great Spanish wine estates: Grandes Pagos de España.

Terruños de Valpiedra Reserva 2016 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) goes marvellously with medium-cured cheeses, braised red meats, roast lamb and large game (venison). It’s also good with hearty stews with chickpeas or pinto beans with pork.

Tasting notes

Colour: Very deep cherry-red with a crimson edge. Abundant, dense and tinted legs. I

Nose: Very intense, highly complex and elegant aromas with prominent mineral notes together with red and black fruit and hints of incense, combined with fine woody notes from the French oak such as vanilla, cedar, blonde tobacco and spices.

Taste: Excellent smoothness and fullness on the attack, developing a very fine tannic structure that makes it flavoursome and pleasant. The freshness afforded by the Graciano grapes makes it more balanced with respect to the alcohol, giving it a very long and pleasant finish. Spicy, fruity and woody retronasal notes.

The winery

Finca Valpiedra

After purchasing the vineyard in 1994, the Martínez Bujanda family built the winery on the same estate, in the 'château' style, and inaugurated Finca Valpiedra in 1999. Today, it is one of the most renowned wineries in Rioja. The facilities and vineyards occupy a single estate located between the municipalities of Cenicero and Fuenmayor, on one of the most spectacular meanders of the Ebro River as it passes through La Rioja, and it encompasses 80 hectares of vineyards with an average age of nearly 50 years.

The vineyards are divided into 15 plots distributed across three terraces of sandy-loam soils, with a high proportion of pebbles that give the plot its name. Due to its uniqueness, Finca Valpiedra is part of the prestigious Grandes Pagos de España association.
