Madrid on the label and at the bottom of the glass: Sanz La Capital Roble 2023 is a Madrid-grown Tempranillo aged in oak to round out its juiciness without losing the red fruit that defines it. A tasty, straightforward red wine with a lot to tell.

Sanz La Capital Roble 2023 is a red wine that speaks clearly: clean red fruit, gentle tannins, and barrel ageing refined to provide balance without masking its quintessential castizo character. It originates from the Arganda subzone (D.O. Vinos de Madrid), at 718 metres above sea level, with sedimentary soils high in limestone, which imparts vibrancy and structure.

It is crafted by Vinos Sanz, a historic house — a benchmark in the D.O. Rueda — that expanded its horizons to Madrid to produce reds with a strong local identity. The Madrid project took shape over a decade ago, and today it is one of its most well-defended red wine offerings.

Sanz La Capital Roble 2023 is a reliable choice for those seeking a tasty and straightforward Madrid Tempranillo, perfect for everyday tables and to impress when hosting guests.

General Information

Sanz La Capital Roble 2023 is designed for everyday tables with a direct and flavoursome profile, coming from the Arganda subzone, in the D.O. Vinos de Madrid, where the mid-aged vines are situated at 718 metres above sea level on calcareous sedimentary soils. This environment, together with the exposure typical of an inland vineyard and the area's continental climate, encourages a slow ripening process characterised by freshness. It is made from Tempranillo and reflects careful viticulture aimed at preserving the fruit's identity and the character of the terroir.

The production of Sanz La Capital Roble 2023 seeks to round out its juiciness without hiding the red fruit that defines it, with a 6-month ageing in oak barrels that provides balance, volume, and a more approachable texture. The wood contact adds nuances of cocoa, vanilla, and toasted notes, while maintaining a frank and intense underlying character. The result is a harmonious, refined, and persistent red, with soft tannins and a very recognisable style.

Sanz La Capital Roble 2023 is crafted by Vinos Sanz, a winery with a long-standing history that has successfully translated its experience into reds with a distinct Madrid identity, supported by the work of Sylvia Iglesias López in oenology and the vision of the Sanz Family. Its project in Madrid reinforces a philosophy centred on quality, consistency, and the expression of origin, something that is clearly evident in this wine. It is a wine that combines craftsmanship, local character, and a highly refined interpretation of Tempranillo.

Sanz La Capital Roble 2023 pairs particularly well with charcuterie and cheeses, and easily accompanies roasts, red meats, stews, and smoked dishes. Its pure fruit, enveloping palate, and volume make it highly versatile at the table, suitable for both everyday meals and more intense dishes. It is a red wine designed to be enjoyed with recipes that have deep flavours and robust textures.

In addition to being the oldest winery in Rueda, Vinos Sanz is an essential name to understand the enormous development that this Castilian-Leonese denomination has experienced in recent decades. Founded in 1870 in La Seca (Valladolid), it was the first winery to unconditionally bet on verdejo, today considered one of the best white grape varieties in the world. Currently, the winery is managed by the sixth generation of the family and is in the midst of a commercial expansion process to conquer new markets.

Vinos Sanz bases its philosophy on preserving the maximum expression of the vineyard and meticulously caring for the winemaking process. In addition to verdejo, the undisputed queen of Rueda, the winery also cultivates sauvignon blanc – the second most important variety in the area – across its more than 100 hectares of vineyards, mostly located in Finca La Colina. This plot, with unbeatable conditions for grape growing, produces the raw material for two of the best white wines made in this country: Finca La Colina 100 x 100 Verdejo and Finca La Colina Sauvignon Blanc.
