Mariano García -creator of Mauro- and his sons once again deliver another edition of the wine that years ago marked a turning point in Toro: San Román. A red wine with a nose of pronounced minerality and fruity echoes. On the palate, it is concentrated and opulent, with firm tannins and great balance. San Román 2022 offers an irresistible quality-price ratio.

Blessed by an Excellent vintage in the D.O. Toro, San Román 2022 is made entirely from Tinta de Toro grapes. The grapes come from vineyards located in the areas of San Román de Hornija, Villaester, and Morales de Toro, on stony and sandy-clay soils. A 22-month aging process in new and used 225 and 500-liter French and American oak barrels rounds out a powerful and elegant ensemble.
San Román Bodegas y Viñedos was established in the late nineties when winemaker Mariano García, having parted ways with Vega Sicilia, decided to embark on a project in the D.O. Toro, applying the same philosophy that had brought him success with Bodegas Mauro (V.T. Castilla y León). Mariano García incorporated his sons Eduardo and Alberto into the San Román project, turning it into one of the most appealing wineries in the D.O. Toro.
San Román 2022 (D.O. Toro) is ideal to pair with judiones de La Granja and also breaded sweetbreads; it even pairs wonderfully with a chocolate tart.
The last turn of the century brought a significant revolution in the D.O. Toro. This historic wine region has experienced, over the last two decades, a meteoric rise to the elite of modern winemaking in the country. Among these new-generation Toros, praised by critics and awarded with the most prestigious international prizes, the wines of Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos stand out.
Maurodos is the winery founded in 1997 by Mariano García (former winemaker of Vega Sicilia and creator of some of the best wines in the country) and his sons Eduardo and Alberto. Their first wine, San Román, debuted with the 1997 vintage and became an icon among the new-generation Toros, as well as one of the key players of the transformation. A red wine that, in addition to the characteristic strength of Toro wines, offered abundant fruit, elegance, maturity, and minerality.
San Román (aged for 22 to 25 months, depending on the vintage) synthesizes the best of Maurodos' vineyards, old Tinta de Toro vines cultivated using ecological methods. Years later, the Prima label was introduced, made from younger vines, easy to drink, fresh, and fruity. A winery committed to producing two wines that offer one of the best quality-to-price ratios on the market.
