Riojan bubbles of quality from the centenary winery Bodegas Bilbaínas
Sparkling wines marked by their freshness are experiencing a sweet moment and are increasingly in demand. Royal Carlton Brut Nature is one of the best in this category among those produced outside of Catalonia. It bears the seal of the prestigious and century-old Bodegas Bilbaínas. Its composition includes two traditional white Rioja varieties: malvasía and viura, and it undergoes 15 months of bottle aging. Undoubtedly, a great option to enjoy the pleasant sensation of bubbles and the characteristic freshness of these wines. Backed by the quality guarantee of one of the most important wineries in the country.
Founded in 1901, Bodegas Bilbaínas is one of the historic wineries in our country and a Rioja benchmark, creator of globally recognized red wines such as Viña Pomal and La Vicalanda, as well as a sparkling wine that is a true classic: Royal Carlton Brut Nature.
It is a blend of malvasía and viura grapes. The harvest was carried out manually. Once in the winery, the grapes underwent gentle pressing. The must was clarified by decantation and fermented under controlled conditions at 16º C. After the tirage, the second fermentation took place in the bottle, following the traditional method (or champenoise).
This sparkling wine aged on its lees in the bottle for a period of 15 months. Finally, during disgorging, no expedition liqueur was added, and the bottle was topped up with its own wine.
Founded in 1859 by French producers, Bodegas Bilbaínas came under the ownership of businessmen from Bilbao in 1901 (hence its name) and soon established itself as one of the main references of Rioja classicism. In 1997, Bodegas Bilbaínas became part of the Codorníu Group. The style of Bodegas Bilbaínas has been updated without losing its essence, offering wines that are more balanced and less influenced by oak. Its portfolio includes highly renowned brands such as Viña Pomal, a century-old label.
The sparkling wine Royal Carlton Brut Nature (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal for pairing with Iberian ham or fish like grilled sole.

Located in the famous wine region of the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, Bodegas Bilbaínas is one of the historic and benchmark wineries in Rioja. Its origins date back to 1859, when the Bordeaux house Savignon Frères et Cie, fleeing the phylloxera plague, settled in Haro to produce and export wine to France. In 1901, a group of entrepreneurs from Bilbao acquired the facilities, also building a new and monumental winery with underground cellars. Thus, the Bodegas Bilbaínas company was definitively established.
In a short time, its wines gained a strong reputation. So much so that in 1925, this house was honored with the title of Supplier to the Royal Household and Heritage. In 1997, the winery became part of the Grupo Codorníu, undergoing a profound renovation of its facilities and vineyards, as well as a modernization of its wine styles.
Today, Bodegas Bilbaínas boasts an exceptionally extensive estate-owned vineyard in La Rioja: 250 hectares spread across the Haro region, within the subzone of Rioja Alta; and it has enviably solid brands that encompass different styles: from the most classic Viña Pomal, to La Vicalanda (Alta Expresión) and the more modern and youthful Viña Zaco.
