Roger Goulart is a century-old, family-run winery that’s committed to producing Cavas with long ageing periods and a well-deserved reputation. Goulart Brut Gran Reserva 2021, an exclusive version made specially for Vinoselección, is designed from an original blend that includes the three typical Cava varieties – Xarel-lo (30%), Parellada (20%) and Macabeo (20%) – plus the French Chardonnay (15%) and Pinot Noir (15%).
The liqueur de tirage was added in April 2022 to bring about the second fermentation in the bottle. After more than 30 months of ageing on the lees in underground cellars, disgorgement was finally performed in November 2024.
Roger Goulart is one of the wineries in the Penedès region that combines traditional winemaking with the best and most careful grape-growing practices to produce Cavas that are leading names. The firm’s history is linked to the Golart and Canals families based in Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona), which initially led a rural lifestyle and produced wine for their own consumption.
It was Miquel Canals i Farré who established the winery back in 1882, after digging out a deep cellar in the garden of the family home. In 1919, architect Ignasi Mas i Morell, a pupil of Gaudí, designed its spectacular Modernist-style facilities where the whole winemaking process continues to be carried out today.
The structure of Roger Goulart Gran Reserva 2021 (D.O. Cava) makes it well suited to accompanying all the courses of a meal from start to finish. It goes particularly well with dishes such as hake pie with scampi and leeks, or with grilled fish such as sole and turbot.
Gorgeous straw-yellow colour with golden glints, bubbles with optimal bead and mousse formation. Fragrant nose with notes of toasted bread and hints of white pome fruits over a background of nuts and Golden Delicious apples. Full and balanced on the palate with good development of flavours and an elegant and delicate fizz. Long, lingering finish.
The cultivation of vines at the Masía de Can Goulart dates back to the 18th century, specifically to 1882, when the Canals family acquired the cellars, making it one of the first sparkling wine producers in Spain. The Canals family still owns the cellars today. Its impressive 1920 building, designed by architect Ignasi Mas Morell, is a prime example of Catalan agrarian modernism and one of its main attractions. Roger Goulart does not own vineyards nor produce the base wine, although he closely follows the entire process. To craft this Brut Nature, he uses the classic trio of regional varieties (Parellada, Xarel.lo, Macabeo), which each contribute distinct qualities: structure, silkiness on the palate, and aromatic finesse.
