As part of the Alma Carraovejas group, Ossian Vides y Vinos claims for itself the enormous potential of the Verdejo of  northern Segovia, an area with centuries of winemaking history where phylloxera did not proliferate thanks to its sandy soils. This is where Quintaluna 2022 came into being, the result of a selection of small plots of organic vineyards.

General Information

The firm Ossian Vides y Vinos started out with the 2005 vintage, investing in pampering an old and exceptional vineyard divided into small plots, where the use of any chemical synthesis products was omitted, nourishing the vines exclusively with organic fertilizers and natural products obtained from plant extracts such as chamomile, nettle or sage.

Currently, this firm is owned by the Alma Carraovejas group (Ruiz Aragoneses family), which maintains the initial philosophy, working to maintain and recover centuries-old vineyards in the north of Segovia that had resisted the phylloxera plague. This is a land of sandy soils and an extreme climate that mark the character of an ancestral Verdejo grape, like the wine we propose, Quintaluna 2022. A white wine made from a selection of small plots distributed between the municipalities of Nieva, Aldeanueva del Codonal, Aldehuela del Codonal and Santiuste de San Juan Bautista.

The grapes that make up Quintaluna 2022 come from organic Verdejo vineyards, mostly old, pre-phylloxera; and to a lesser extent, grapes from younger, selected vines with low yields. After harvesting by hand, the grapes went through a selection table, were destemmed and gently pressed, and fermented in small stainless-steel tanks with native yeasts. The resulting wine was left 9 months on its lees and is now ready to be enjoyed.

Tasting notes

A wine that sports an attractive yellow colour with golden tones.

In the olfactory phase it enjoys good intensity, highlighting the aromas of ripe fruits together with notes of citrus, nuts and smoky touches.

On the palate it is balanced, tasty, oily, with breadth and a pleasant and ripe mid-palate. Its finish offers a pleasant length.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Ossian Vides y Vinos

Ossian is a winery owned by Grupo Pago de Carraovejas (Ruiz Aragoneses family), working to preserve and recover century-old vineyards that were not devastated by phylloxera, located in the northwest of Segovia, a land with privileged soils and an extreme climate that defines the character of the ancestral and authentic verdejo. The firm Ossian Vides y Vinos was founded in the 2005 vintage, conceived by the prominent wine industry figure Javier Zaccagnini along with Ismael Gozalo, a member of a family that for several generations has been fully dedicated to viticulture.

The winery committed to caring for an exceptional old vineyard of 30 hectares divided into small plots where the use of synthetic chemical products was omitted, nourishing the vines exclusively with organic fertilizers and natural products obtained from plant extracts such as chamomile, nettle, or sage. Ossian established a clear distinction from the wineries under the D.O. Rueda that produce large quantities at low prices and managed to become a flagship white wine for environmentally friendly viticulture and an example of the heights that the verdejo variety can reach in contact with wood. After Zaccagnini's departure, Ossian became part of the same group as the prestigious Ribera del Duero firm Pago de Carraovejas in 2013.
