Ossian is a winery owned by Grupo Pago de Carraovejas (Ruiz Aragoneses family), working to preserve and recover century-old vineyards that were not devastated by phylloxera, located in the northwest of Segovia, a land with privileged soils and an extreme climate that defines the character of the ancestral and authentic verdejo. The firm Ossian Vides y Vinos was founded in the 2005 vintage, conceived by the prominent wine industry figure Javier Zaccagnini along with Ismael Gozalo, a member of a family that for several generations has been fully dedicated to viticulture.
The winery committed to caring for an exceptional old vineyard of 30 hectares divided into small plots where the use of synthetic chemical products was omitted, nourishing the vines exclusively with organic fertilizers and natural products obtained from plant extracts such as chamomile, nettle, or sage. Ossian established a clear distinction from the wineries under the D.O. Rueda that produce large quantities at low prices and managed to become a flagship white wine for environmentally friendly viticulture and an example of the heights that the verdejo variety can reach in contact with wood. After Zaccagnini's departure, Ossian became part of the same group as the prestigious Ribera del Duero firm Pago de Carraovejas in 2013.
