Petit Pittacum 2024 comes from small plots of old century-old mencía vineyards, located on the slopes of the mountainous belt that forms the Bierzo wine region. Vines rooted in fresher clay soils, which precisely reflect the purest Atlantic style of the region.

Petit Pittacum 2024 is an elegant single-varietal wine made from mencía, a native red variety from Bierzo, in the province of León. Century-old vineyards gave rise to this magnificent wine with an Atlantic profile and selective extraction, whose production included a brief aging of three months in oak barrels.

Founded in 1998, Bodega Pittacum has championed quality and personality in its creations since its inception. This philosophy is reflected in its commitment to tradition and craftsmanship, deeply rooted in the legacy of the land. A fine example of this is the Petit Pittacum that the Club brings to you.

The grapes that gave rise to Petit Pittacum 2024 were cultivated on clay slopes in the mountainous wine region of Bierzo. Its northeast orientation imparted this mencía with its fresh, Atlantic character. For its production, the harvest was carried out by hand, with the grape clusters transported to the winery in 12 kg boxes, where they underwent manual selection. After destemming, the grapes were placed in tanks for fermentation over 15 days at 25ºC. This red wine, certified under the D.O Bierzo, completed its vinification process with 3 months of aging in barrels for its final refinement before being released to the market.

Tasting notes

Highly colored to the eye, with an elegant nose marked by red fruits. Fluid and juicy on the palate, with the wood well-hidden.

The winery

Originating from Rías Baixas, the geographical expansion process of Grupo Terras Gauda began in Bierzo in 2003 with Bodegas Pittacum, located in Arganza (León). Extracting the maximum typicity of the mencía grape is the purpose of this winery, which has 220 plots spread over 40 hectares of old vineyards in the mountainous Bierzo belt. Around 40% of the sales of Pittacum Barrica, Petit Pittacum, Pittacum Aurea, and La Prohibición, made with Garnacha Tintorera from century-old vines, are destined for export markets, with China, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Austria leading its internationalization.

Respect for origin, boosting internationalization, and environmental care are the major commitments of the Grupo Terras Gauda.
