The Malaveïna estate is located in the heart of the Empordà, in a privileged area with clay soils and excellent sun exposure. The Mediterranean climate, moderated by the tramontana wind, promotes a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. This terroir allows Bordeaux and Mediterranean varieties to express their full potential, offering wines with structure, freshness, and great aromatic complexity such as Perelada Finca Malaveïna 2022.
Manual harvest and rigorous cluster selection. Long maceration and controlled fermentation at 22 ºC to preserve aromas and structure. Aged for 12 months: 74% in new Bordeaux barrels of French oak, 10% in foudres, 9% in cement tanks, and 7% in 300-liter French oak barrels. This process provides a balance between fruit, wood, and minerality.
Celler Perelada, a historic benchmark of the Empordà since 1923, stands out for its strong commitment to estate wines and sustainable practices. Finca Malaveïna is one of its jewels: a wine that reflects its philosophy of excellence and respect for the landscape.
Perelada Finca Malaveïna 2022 is ideal for stews, roasted meats, game dishes, and recipes with intense sauces. It also pairs well with mushrooms, sweet spices, and red fruit preserves, enhancing its elegant and expressive character.
Perelada Finca Malaveïna is a ruby red wine with a deep hue. Fruity aroma with subtle toasted and balsamic notes in the background. On the palate, it is round, meaty, and structured, with ripe tannins that provide a sense of roundness. Excellent balance, smooth on the palate, and a long finish.
The production of wine at the Castillo de Perelada has been documented since the Middle Ages. When Miguel Mateu purchased this monumental complex in 1923, one of his main objectives was to revitalize this winemaking tradition, a tradition that is now more alive than ever and has incorporated the most modern technology to produce wines that fully capture the nuances of the soils and vineyards of the Empordà.
It was in the town of Peralada where Miguel Mateu Pla discovered and became passionate about the world of wine, and where he decided to establish the Castillo Perelada winery, reviving a centuries-old tradition that dates back to the 14th century. In the early 1990s, Castillo Perelada decided to focus on producing high-quality wines, what some refer to as high-expression wines. This new approach has materialized through a series of investments in research and development.
This small area of land concentrates a variety of soils found in very few places: slate slopes, sandy plains, fluvial sediment, soils rich in silt and clay, gravel soils... This heterogeneity of terrains allows Castillo de Perelada to harvest grapes with an extensive range of nuances in each vintage, enabling the production of complex wines full of character. It comprises five different estates with a total of 150 hectares.
In 2022, Celler Perelada inaugurated the new winery, conceived by the Suqué Mateu family together with RCR Arquitectes, a Spanish studio that received the Pritzker Prize in 2017, considered the Nobel of Architecture.
