Pazo de San Mauro 2024 is sourced from 35-year-old Albariño vineyards located in the "Pazo San Mauro" estate, which spans 30 hectares. This property features soils with a sandy loam texture and alluvial deposits in the lower part of the vineyard near the Miño River. In the higher part, gravel and rounded stones predominate, along with clay, all resting on a granitic rock base.
Manual harvest with cluster selection in the field. Once at the winery, part of the grapes were processed using cold maceration, another part with whole clusters, and a third part with direct pressing. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to highlight the varietal expression.
Pazo de San Mauro has established itself as one of the most iconic wineries in Galicia. Its facilities are located in a traditional Galician palace and feature a spectacular vineyard: 30 hectares of vines in the Condado de Tea subzone, the southernmost area of the D.O. Rías Baixas, descending in a beautiful amphitheater to the banks of the Miño River.
Pazo de San Mauro is part of the Marqués de Vargas Wine Group, which also owns Marqués de Vargas in Rioja and Conde de San Cristóbal in the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
Pazo de San Mauro 2024 (D.O. Rías Baixas) is ideal for pairing with appetizers, seafood, seafood-based pastas, or Asian cuisine.
Pazo de San Mauro has been meticulously crafted to be a varietal Albariño that traditionally and representatively embodies our vineyard and "terroir". This vintage stands out for its remarkable intensity and aromatic complexity, unveiling captivating notes of apple and ripe citrus. On the palate, it highlights its freshness, minerality, and persistence, thus capturing the essence of an exceptional vineyard.
Since the late 16th century, the architectural complex presiding over Pazo San Mauro, in Salvaterra do Miño, has featured a space dedicated to the vine. However, it was not until 1988 that the possibility of producing quality wines from the native albariño variety was conceived. Since 2003, the estate has belonged to the Grupo Vinícola Marqués de Vargas, a Rioja-based firm that has undertaken significant investments in the restoration of the buildings and the construction of a brand-new winery.
