Pasos de San Martín 2018 is one of the fantastic village wines from the Navarra firm of Juan Carlos López de Lacalle. Made with the best Garnacha fruits selected from the vineyards that, at more than 600 meters above sea level, Artazu owns in San Martín de Unx, this crianza, aged for 12 months in 500-liter French oak barrels, stands out for its penetrating vivacity, its aromas of low mountain and floral notes, and its delicate tannins.
Artazu is one of the projects of the prestigious winemaker and vintner Juan Carlos López de Lacalle outside of La Rioja. Founded in 1996, in the homonymous village of medieval origin and deep-rooted viticultural traditions, the winery advocates for the recovery of the native Garnacha through a perfect fusion of tradition and modernity and respectful viticulture based on ecological and sustainability concepts. All of this is reflected in high-quality wines like this Pasos de San Martín 2018.
In his Navarre project, López de Lacalle revives the emblematic variety of the denomination, Garnacha, for the production of great red wines. The vineyards he works with are located in the heart of Valdizarbe, an area that offers the best climate and soil conditions to produce wines of exceptional quality. Artadi represents the forefront of Spanish wine, a house that has become a benchmark of quality on an international level. In fact, it is one of the five wineries in the entire national history to have received the highest score from guru Robert Parker (100 points out of 100) for one of its wines: Viña el Pisón 2004. A rating that places it on par with the legendary French, Italian, or Californian wines, and that has elevated this winery and its creator, Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, to the Olympus of the Gods. Their wines are very difficult to obtain, sold only through allocations. Since López de Lacalle founded Artadi in 1985 as a cooperative, the trajectory of this Rioja winery has been meteoric. Today, it is an internationally acclaimed winery whose success translates into enormous difficulty in acquiring its wines. The Artazu winery was founded in 1996 in the Alava town of the same name, with the intention of producing single-varietal wines with the traditional variety of the area: Garnacha. The wines of Artazuri come from young vineyards and are fresh and fruity, vibrant and carefree. Another of its attractions is having made the wines of this prestigious Rioja house accessible to the general public. The wines of Artazu offer an excellent quality-price ratio without compromising their magnificent quality.
