In this collection, we step out of the comfort zone represented by the most prestigious denominations to dive into treasures offered by other regions with a strong identity and winemaking processes worth exploring. We begin in the Sonsierra of Navarra, an extension of the famous Rioja Sonsierra, where ‘cabernet sauvignon’ has found an ideal habitat to express itself, as demonstrated by Marco Real Lazos 2019 (90 Parker points). Next, we continue with a garnacha with great international potential originating from one of the strongholds of this grape, in the D.O. Campo de Borja (Zaragoza): Cabriola Edición Especial 2019, an exclusive version of the acclaimed Cabriola, a red wine with an impressive track record. Finally, we conclude in the D.O. Ribera del Júcar (Cuenca), where the casual and approachable organic red wine Illana 2023 is born, a ‘coupage’ of tempranillo, syrah, and bobal with 4 months of barrel aging, indulgent, fruity, and fresh. Three reds that, once on your radar, you’ll want to keep track of.

As it passes through Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, the Sonsierra shapes the most emblematic enclave of high-quality Rioja vineyards. However, not everyone knows that it has a Navarrese part. The Marco Real winery has been committed to this valuable enclave for more than two decades. Here, in the Navarrese Sonsierra, they produce Marco Real Lazos 2019, a cabernet sauvignon aged for 14 months in barrels, which displays great energy, length, and finesse in the glass. It also stands out for its freshness and fruity notes with elegant cedar touches. A very pleasant red wine rated with 90 points on the world's most famous list: the so-called Parker points.
When talking about the most prestigious denominations known to Spanish consumers, Campo de Borja might not be included. However, this small Aragonese denomination is a source of wines highly appreciated outside our country for their extraordinary value for money. These wines are based on garnacha, the signature grape of the area, such as Cabriola Edición Especial 2019 (12 months in barrels). This is an exclusive version of the acclaimed Cabriola and has been crafted for Vinoselección by Bodegas Borsao, the flagship winery of the region.
The D.O. Ribera del Júcar, located in the province of Cuenca, shares territory with the vast and better-known D.O. La Mancha. Although its presence in the markets is still limited, some wineries stand out for the quality of their productions, such as Bodegas y Viñedos Illana. Their organic wine Illana 2023 is an excellent example of this region's potential. Made from a ‘coupage’ of tempranillo, syrah, and bobal, and with a brief aging of 4 months in barrels, it presents itself as a luscious, fruity, and fresh red wine. Its relaxed and accessible character makes it an ideal option for both enthusiasts and more experienced palates.
