In 1973, the same year that Vinoselección came into being, Bodegas Olarra was founded, a company that would soon earn the nickname of “the cathedral of La Rioja”, not only for its avant-garde architecture but also for its solid vocation for excellence. Since then, it has succeeded in building a bridge between the Rioja legacy and innovation, creating wines that honour tradition without renouncing a bold look towards the future. This collection is a shining example of that vision.
Olarra Cuvée Especial Gran Reserva 2019 is a limited edition, precisely selected by our technical team after a long process of tasting and reflection. An oenological jewel that can only be enjoyed in Spain through this exclusive collection. Despite its 26-months’ ageing in French and American oak barrels, this Gran Reserva stands out from the usual classicism, offering a more contemporary profile: rich, elegant, with a contained energy that makes it a unique and sophisticated wine for ageing.
Olarra Cuvée Especial Reserva 2020 shares the same varietal blend – Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo – but with a shorter ageing of 18 months. Its style is livelier and fresher, with a more discreet and perfectly integrated presence of wood. This wine is the result of a meticulous creation process: seven different blends from four base wines aged between 8 and 20 months, until the final formula is found. The result is a "Special Cuvée" that lives up to its name, a rarity that has stood out, and a great deal, over the 52 years of custom-made wines for Vinoselección.

Founded in 1973 in Logroño, Bodegas Olarra exemplifies the most traditional style of Rioja. It is a major winery on the national wine scene, always a safe and reliable choice. This winery, acting as one of the driving forces behind Rioja wine, stands out for the significant qualitative leap it has made in recent years, blending the most modern winemaking techniques with the traditional methods of production and aging in Rioja, creating wines conceived according to strict quality standards.
Thus, Bodegas Olarra cultivates high-quality raw materials, sourced both from its own vineyards and through agreements with the best winegrowers in Rioja: approximately 1,300 hectares of vineyards. It also boasts extensive experience working with oak barrels to ensure its wines reach their fullest expression. Additionally, Olarra is distinguished by the beauty and complexity of its facilities, known as the cathedral of Rioja, unique for their Y-shaped layout and 111 hexagonal domes.
In recent years, Olarra has become one of the most highly regarded wineries in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, and its wines are among the most awarded, such as Añares Reserva and Cerro Añón Crianza. It was named Best Spanish Winery at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) held in London in 2013 and at the Berliner Wein Trophy in 2015.
