Vineyard

Description

Oinoz Crianza 2022 is a modern-styled red born in the higher reaches of the Sierra de Cantabria, between San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida. It comes from old vines planted in a bush-trained system, ranging in age from 25 to 80 years, set on calcareous and fresh soils in the northern end of the D.O.Ca. Rioja, where the range acts as a natural filter for the humid storms from the north and allows a fresh breeze that enhances aromatic freshness, fruitiness, structure and minerality. The wine is made from Tempranillo and represents the expression of low-yield vineyards with small berries, grown in a highly prestigious winegrowing area.

Age

Made from Tempranillo vines from both young and old vineyards, aged between 25 and 80 years.

Climate

In Oinoz Crianza, the Sierra de Cantabria acts as a natural filter, delivering a fresh, healthy breeze that protects the vineyard and promotes greater aromatic freshness. The result is a wine with more fruitiness, structure and minerality, a direct reflection of a very singular climatic environment.

Viticulture

Oinoz Crianza 2022 comes from old vines of Tempranillo grown in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, on calcareous and fresh soils, goblet-trained with limited yields. The winery works this plot with a philosophy based on sustainability and respect for the environment, aiming to preserve the natural expression of the grape and the personality of the terroir.

Tasting notes

View

Dark cardinal red with violet tones, appearing intense and bright.

Nose

It unfolds an intense and fragrant nose, dominated by fresh red fruit of raspberry and blackberry, woven with floral violet notes, while subtle mentholated hints of eucalyptus appear. Subsequently, spicy notes of white pepper and licorice add to it, alongside delicate mineral and clay echoes that provide depth and character. In a broader reading, hints of chocolate, ripe blackberries, black cherries, caramelised nuts and sesame also emerge, reinforcing its expressive and complex profile.

Mouth

On the palate, Oinoz Crianza 2022 offers a smooth and highly refined approach, with good acidity that emerges after fruity flavours and fine toasty notes, and which provides liveliness without losing harmony. Its texture is intense, round and balanced, with a medium-high body and polished tannins that leave a pleasant tactile impression. The finish is long and persistent, with a broad and well-integrated final sensation.

The winery

Bodega CM de Matarromera
Founded in 2014 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Bodega CM de Matarromera (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is another remarkable project by the renowned Castilian-Leonese winemaker Carlos Moro, owner of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. This venture was born from Carlos Moro's desire to expand Bodegas Familiares Matarromera and become part of a denomination of origin as prestigious and iconic as Rioja (prior to the creation of Bodega CM de Matarromera, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera included only wineries within the denominations of origin influenced by the Duero River).

A business project aimed at producing high-end wines and sharing the philosophy upon which Bodegas Familiares Matarromera is founded: innovation, respect for sustainability and the environment, and the pursuit of the highest quality. Bodega CM de Matarromera owns 30 hectares of its own vineyards distributed across various plots located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, as well as 60 controlled hectares situated in these towns and Ábalos.

The winery's facilities feature an impressive 300-meter-long underground cellar that houses 2,000 American and French oak barrels. Currently, Bodega CM de Matarromera produces the brands CM and Oinoz (D.O.Ca. Rioja). Additionally, this initiative also includes other select estate wines from symbolic vineyards in other denominations of origin, such as Toro, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, and Cigales.
