In the words of Bodegas Montecillo, Montecillo Edición Limitada 2017 is “the most contemporary and at the same time most timeless wine of the brand.” With the aim of expressing the most authentic personality of Rioja, its winemaker, Mercedes García, carefully selected the best clusters of tempranillo and graciano, vinified separately until the final coupage, after 25 months of aging. A luscious and seductive red that perfectly complements red meat and game dishes.

Tasting notes

Deep cherry red color with bluish rim, great intensity, density, and amplitude in the movement of the glass.

Very fruity nose, licorice, black and currant framed by vanilla, subtle notes of cinnamon and juniper.

On the palate, it is round, sweet, and glyceric. Powerful entry, present and seductive tannin, with freshness throughout the wine's passage. In the aftertaste, black fruit and wood reappear.

The winery

Bodegas Montecillo

Bodegas Montecillo was founded in 1870 by Celestino Navajas Matute, being the oldest winery in the municipality of Fuenmayor and the third oldest winery of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Since 1973, Montecillo has belonged to the Osborne Family, and today it has become one of the benchmarks for long-aged wines. It produces the Clásica range (Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva, a white and a rosé), signature wines, and the Viña Monty range, which represents the most avant-garde winemaking trend of the centenary winery, committed to traditional production with a renewed approach.

Bodegas Montecillo has underground cellars that house vintages dating back to 1926, as well as an impressive manual bottle rack.
