Montecillo Crianza is an intense cherry-red wine with a still bluish rim. Explosive on the nose, sweet, lively, and spirited. Dominated by stewed red fruit with a slight hint of blackberry. The wood appears after slight aeration, showing sweet notes and a seductive finish of pastry notes intertwined with the fruit. The entry on the palate is broad, round, and tremendously varietal, showcasing ripe red fruit. Deliciousness. Throughout, a multitude of nuances with a balanced and powerful tannin that delights by filling the mouth and provides a long and silky aftertaste. Exquisitely matched acidity with tannin and sweetness again at the end of the sip.
Bodegas Montecillo was founded in 1870 by Celestino Navajas Matute, being the oldest winery in the municipality of Fuenmayor and the third oldest winery of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Since 1973, Montecillo has belonged to the Osborne Family, and today it has become one of the benchmarks for long-aged wines. It produces the Clásica range (Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva, a white and a rosé), signature wines, and the Viña Monty range, which represents the most avant-garde winemaking trend of the centenary winery, committed to traditional production with a renewed approach.
Bodegas Montecillo has underground cellars that house vintages dating back to 1926, as well as an impressive manual bottle rack.
