Melior 12 2023 is the third vintage of a wine that is produced exclusively for us by one of the country’s most prestigious producers: Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. With all the character of the renowned Ribera producer, but with a fresher and more modern style.

Melior 12 2023 is a magnificent red from the ‘golden mile’ of Ribera del Duero. A wine that shows how careful ageing in oak can respect the variety’s character and provide support for a good evolution in the bottle.

Bodegas Famliares Matarromera counts, alongside the winery and in nearby areas of Valbuena and Olivares de Duero (Valladolid), with more than 160 hectares that sink their roots into calcareous soils. 60 of them, planted in 1997, used to supply the more affordable wines of the winery. But they have grown up and are now fully mature: the fruit they yield is increasingly complex and deeper.

We have chosen the best clusters from these vineyards for the production of Melior de Matarromera 12 Meses 2023, an Ribera del Duero exclusive that you will love.

Description

Melior 12 2023 is sourced from Bodega Matarromera's own vineyards in Valbuena and Olivares de Duero, in the heart of Ribera del Duero, where the maturity reached by these plots allows the character of the region to be expressed with precision and supports a 12-month ageing in barrels of French and American oak. Made with Tempranillo, it reflects the identity of vineyards aimed at offering a balance between structure and freshness, in an environment with a long wine-making tradition and marked by the excellence of the vintage.

The winery

Converted into one of the benchmark wineries of Spanish wine and a model of success in Ribera del Duero, Matarromera (1988) was the first winery created by Carlos Moro. Today, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera stands as one of the most important winery groups in the country, with wineries in Toro, Cigales, Rueda, and Rioja. Synonymous with prestige and innovation, their wines are exported to more than 80 countries.
