Mauro was Mariano García's first independent wine project after three decades of experience at Vega Sicilia. Since then, this red has achieved classic status, thanks to its outstanding quality and an exceptional quality-price ratio. Mauro 2023 is produced from vineyards located in Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo, right in the heart of the Valladolid province, and is made from a carefully selected blend of varieties led by Tempranillo, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Graciano. Its 16-month aging process takes place in a combination of Fudres and French oak barrels, providing depth, structure, and elegance to the overall profile.

Mauro 2023 emerges from a viticultural campaign marked by unusual weather conditions. The winter was mild and rainy, allowing for the accumulation of water reserves in the soil. Spring arrived earlier than usual and was dry, followed by a summer that began with mild temperatures and became warm as the weeks passed. Veraison occurred in mid-July, and the heatwaves at the end of summer accelerated the harvest, which started on 28 August. Early September’s rains brought freshness to the vines. The wines from this vintage stand out for their vibrant fruit expression and delicate tannins.
The composition of Mauro 2023 comes from vineyards located in Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo, in the province of Valladolid. Its primary varietal is Tempranillo (80%), complemented by 20% of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Graciano. The wine aged for 16 months in a combination of fudres and French oak barrels of varying ages, which lends it complexity, structure, and elegance.
The story of Mauro 2023 dates back to the visionary drive of Mariano García, who, after almost three decades as an oenologist at Vega Sicilia – a winery where he was born, as his father Mauro worked there as a cellar master – decided to forge his own path. In the late 1970s, he acquired 4 hectares of old vines in Tudela de Duero, founding Bodegas Mauro. Over time, and alongside his sons Eduardo and Alberto, Mariano has established a reputation that places him among the great names of international oenology.
Mariano García, one of the brightest figures in Spanish wine, was the winemaker at Vega Sicilia for nearly 30 years. Restless by nature, in the late seventies, he acquired 4 hectares of old vineyards in Tudela del Duero, which would become the foundation of his first personal project: Bodegas Mauro.
Bodegas Mauro (1980) marked a milestone in Spanish wine for its innovative concept: wine conceived as a reflection of the environment and terroir, separate vinification of plots, yield limitation, shorter aging periods to enhance the expression of the fruit… Currently, Mariano García runs the winery alongside his sons Eduardo and Alberto. Together, they produce the red wines Mauro, Mauro VS, and Terreus, brands so powerful that they do not need the umbrella of a designation of origin. Recently, the white wine Mauro Godello has been added to their catalog.
