Over the years, Mariano García has established himself as a figure in worldwide oenology and his first wine outside Vega Sicilia, Mauro, has become one of the most eagerly awaited, year after year. Mauro 2022 once again meets the expectations of avid wine aficionados.
This wine is a product of a demanding and challenging vintage due to long periods of drought and high summer temperatures that led to dormant periods due to lack of water in some vineyards; early harvesting on the 1st of September, and lower yields. The harvest was optimal due to the lack of humidity, with very healthy grapes with excellent concentration. This wine is made with vineyards located in the municipalities of Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo, starting from the queen variety of the area, Tempranillo (85%) and adding 15% of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Graciano. Its fermentation was 16 months in foudres and French oak barrels of different ages.
Mariano García was Vega Sicilia's winemaker for nearly 30 years. Restless by nature, at the end of the seventies he acquired 4 hectares of old vines in Tudela del Duero that would serve as the basis of his own first personal project: Bodegas Mauro.
Bodegas Mauro (1980) marked a milestone in Spanish wine for its innovative conception: wine conceived as a reflection of the environment and the terroir, separate production of each plot, limitation of yields, and shorter ageing to favour the expression of the fruit... Currently, Mariano García holds the reins at his winery, along with his sons Eduardo and Alberto.
Mauro 2022 is an ideal red to accompany osso bucco or cocido madrileño (chickpea-based stew).
Exuberant and full on the nose with overflowing fruitiness, hints of cocoa and mint. Rich and round on the palate, with creamy, flowing tannin.

Together, they produce the red wines Mauro, Mauro VS, and Terreus, brands so powerful that they do not need the umbrella of a designation of origin. Recently, the white wine Mauro Godello has been added to their catalog.
