Over the years, Mariano García has established himself as a leading figure in world oenology and his first wine outside Vega Sicilia, Mauro, has become one of the most eagerly awaited ones, vintage after vintage. Mauro 2021 once again meets the expectations of wine lovers eager for great wines.
It has come from a vintage of exceptional quality that has produced concentrated, balanced and fine wines. It is made from vines located in the municipalities of Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo, starting with the region's main variety, Tempranillo (85%), adding 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Graciano. The wine is aged for 15 months in French oak casks and barrels of different ages.
Mariano García was Vega Sicilia's oenologist for nearly 30 years. Restless by nature, in the late seventies he acquired 4 hectares of old vines in Tudela del Duero that were to be the basis of his first personal project: Bodegas Mauro.
Bodegas Mauro (1980) was a milestone in Spanish wine because of its innovative conception: a wine conceived as a reflection of the environment and terroir, separate plots of land, yield limitations, and reduced ageing to favour the expression of the fruit... Today, Mariano García runs the winery together with his sons Eduardo and Alberto.
Mauro 2021 is an ideal red wine to accompany osso bucco or cocido madrileño.
Mariano García, one of the brightest figures in Spanish wine, was the winemaker at Vega Sicilia for nearly 30 years. Restless by nature, in the late seventies, he acquired 4 hectares of old vineyards in Tudela del Duero, which would become the foundation of his first personal project: Bodegas Mauro.
Bodegas Mauro (1980) marked a milestone in Spanish wine for its innovative concept: wine conceived as a reflection of the environment and terroir, separate vinification of plots, yield limitation, shorter aging periods to enhance the expression of the fruit… Currently, Mariano García runs the winery alongside his sons Eduardo and Alberto. Together, they produce the red wines Mauro, Mauro VS, and Terreus, brands so powerful that they do not need the umbrella of a designation of origin. Recently, the white wine Mauro Godello has been added to their catalog.
