Mas Vilella 2023 comes from a unique estate located in La Bisbal del Penedès, on the slopes of the Rotllat mountain, at an altitude of 250 metres. It's a historic site crowned by the Mas Vilella farmhouse, a sixteenth-century building that still has an old wine cellar with underground wine presses. There Albert Jané produces a red wine that reflects the personality of an extreme landscape and the perseverance of a family deeply attached to the land. Mas Vilella 2023 once again displays the firm, aromatic and lasting character that’s defined this wine for many vintages.

General Information

Mas Vilella 2023 is a red wine produced in very limited quantities that combines precision, maturity and a marked varietal expression. A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon enhanced by a small percentage of Sumoll, it’s notable for its ripe black fruit, spicy notes and mineral undertones that recall the limestone soils where it was grown. Twelve months in large 300- and 400-litre French oak barrels – both new and one year old – have given it structure and elegance without sacrificing its freshness. This is a deeply layered, serious wine with great length, combining potency and balance.

The Mas Vilella 2023 vineyard is located in extremely poor, stony soil where formerly only almond and carob trees survived. It was planted by Benjamí and Maria, who decided to take a chance on this difficult terrain to demonstrate its potential. The very low yields produce concentrated grapes, the result of hand-sorting and the traditional cultivation methods that characterise this estate. This harsh, sunlit and mineral terroir is reflected in a wine with an unmistakable identity.

Benjamí and Maria's son, Albert Jané, now lives on and looks after the Mas Vilella estate, having returned there after working in Priorat. His return represents a reaffirmation of the roots and winemaking tradition of Baix Penedès. Mas Vilella 2023 is the result of his continued commitment to authenticity, a wine that combines history, terroir and a modern awareness.

Mas Vilella is an estate located in La Bisbal del Penedès, at around 250 metres above sea level, with views over the Rotllat mountain range. Within this setting stands the Mas Vilella farmhouse, dating back to the 16th century and home to an old underground winery. Various remains suggest that its origins go back even further and that the site may once have hosted a Roman villa equipped with facilities for wine production.

Albert Jané now lives and works on this historic estate. Although he is originally from El Vendrell, he spent many years away from home developing his career in the D.O. Montsant and later in the D.O.Q. Priorat. He eventually decided to return in order to recover the family heritage and continue cultivating the vineyards surrounding the farmhouse, which have accompanied his family for generations.
