Born in Tokaj, Mandolás 2023 is a single-varietal Furmint that showcases the most contemporary side of this Hungarian region: precision, tension, and a very polished sensation on the palate, while retaining the authentic character that makes it so recognizable. It comes from the Mandolás vineyard, entirely planted with Furmint on clay and volcanic rock soils. Tokaj-Oremus, the Hungarian winery of Vega Sicilia in the heart of Tokaj-Hegyalja, has been working since 2001 to express this variety with a modern approach, yet deeply faithful to the region. Mandolás 2023 perfectly encapsulates this idea: a dry white wine, elegant and approachable, designed to enjoy Tokaj's personality in its cleanest and brightest expression.

Mandolás 2023 comes from the Mandolás vineyard, entirely planted with Furmint in the Tokaj-Hegyalja region, on lehm and volcanic rock soils that provide depth and clarity. The harvest is done by hand, with selection in the vineyard, and the viticulture relies on a precise reading of ripeness to preserve the purest expression of the grape.

Mandolás 2023 is crafted through gentle pressing of selected grape clusters and partial fermentation in new Hungarian oak barrels, combined with another part in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, a significant portion of the wine undergoes aging on lees in small-capacity Hungarian oak barrels, with weekly bâtonnage during the initial months and a subsequent resting period, refining its texture and supporting its dry and aromatic character.

The Tokaj-Oremus winery, associated with Vega Sicilia and located in the heart of Tokaj, crafts this wine as a modern interpretation of the region's historical tradition. Mandolás 2023 reflects this philosophy of combining precise technique, respect for its origin, and a constant pursuit of balance, from the vineyard to bottling, to achieve a white wine with identity, tension, and a long finish on the palate.

At the table, Mandolás 2023 pairs well with seafood, fish, Asian cuisine, light and savory dishes, or pasta with pesto.

Tasting notes

It displays a pale straw yellow color with greenish reflections.

On the nose, it offers white and tropical fruit -papaya, mango, pineapple, yellow melon, and pear- along with citrus, flowers, mineral notes, and a background of hay, acacia, Mediterranean herbs, and green pepper.

On the palate, it is dry, fresh, and tense, with lively acidity, a dense and creamy texture, and a long finish marked by mineral nuances.
