General Information

Presenting a Matarromera wine is always good news. And if, additionally, it is an exclusive edition like LABUENAUVA 2024, the news is even better. Bodegas Matarromera (1988) is a benchmark of Spanish wine that needs no introduction: a well-established project with international prestige, supported by privileged vineyards located in one of the legendary areas of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, Valbuena de Duero. That is why, ever since we conceived the exclusive LABUENAUVA range, we wanted to include this name. And we have finally achieved it.

LABUENAUVA is a collection of wines created exclusively for Vinoselección by wineries renowned for their quality of raw material: the grape, hence its name. And certainly, in Valbuena de Duero and Olivares de Duero – the regions where LABUENAUVA 2024 hails from – the Tempranillo reaches extraordinary heights. Not in vain, this area known as “the golden mile” produces some of the best wines in the country and hosts legends such as Vega Sicilia.

Thus, LABUENAUVA 2024 from Matarromera comes from Tempranillo vineyards aged between 25 and 30 years, fully matured, located in Valbuena de Duero and Olivares de Duero (Valladolid). Its ageing has been 12 months in American and French oak barrels. It offers a perfect balance between the freshness of a young wine and the elegance of a well-aged red. It presents a modern profile, with abundant black fruit, tannins that are present but noble and of high quality, and a body that faithfully reflects the style of Ribera del Duero.

Currently, the wine is in a magnificent moment, clearly showcasing the personality of the grape, which is precisely what we seek in this range. But if you decide to keep a bottle for two or three years, its varietal character will enrich with greater complexity, and tertiary notes from the ageing will emerge: spices, smokiness, chocolate… In short, a fabulous Ribera del Duero to enjoy now or to let rest. The choice is yours! But what is certain is that you will have an authentic jewel at home.

LABUENAUVA 2024 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal to accompany dishes such as Iberian pork cheeks stewed or dishes like verdinas with carabineros.

The winery

Bodega Matarromera

Following the winemaking tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro founded the Matarromera winery in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in 1988 with a clear objective: to create quality wines using the most advanced technology while respecting traditional winemaking methods. The main challenge undertaken by Carlos Moro was his commitment to new barrels for aging his wines, an initiative that was novel at the time in Ribera del Duero. Another key to Matarromera's success is its excellent vineyards, located in a legendary area of the D.O. Ribera del Duero: Valbuena de Duero.

Matarromera was the first winery of Carlos Moro and the seed of one of the most important wine groups in this country: Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. The first red wine produced by the winery—an ancestor of the brand we now know as Melior—achieved the title of "Best Wine in the World" at the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) competition held in Turkey in 1995. Currently, Bodega Matarromera has 150 hectares of its own vineyards and controls an additional 160 hectares.
