Elegant red wine from a pioneering winery in the cultivation of French grapes
Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre Reserva 2022 is one of the most solid and reliable labels from Penedès due to its consistency. Aged for 12 months in American and French oak and born from a single vineyard, it is an organic wine with the ‘Vi de Finca’ designation.
Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre Reserva 2022 is one of the few Catalan wines classified as 'Vi de Finca', which means it comes from a single vineyard with unique characteristics that give it great singularity; it represents the highest recognition a wine can achieve in Catalonia. This is an organic red wine crafted by blending two French-origin grapes: cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, sourced from old vines (planted in 1968) in the Le Havre vineyard, a 16-hectare plot with clay-limestone soils.
Jean Leon is a 'boutique winery' founded in 1963 by Jean Leon in the heart of the Penedès. Jean Leon, born in Santander under the name Ceferino Carrión, emigrated to the United States and managed to open Hollywood's most luxurious restaurant: La Scala, frequented by the biggest stars. His other great dream was to create a wine bearing his name that would meet the standards of his exclusive clientele, and in the heart of the Penedès, he found the best lands to make it a reality. Here, he acquired 150 hectares and replaced local varieties with noble French ones, becoming a pioneer in introducing grapes like cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and chardonnay to Spain. In 1994, Jean Leon entrusted his winery to his friend Miguel Torres.
From the French port of Le Havre, Jean Leon boarded a ship as a stowaway bound for the U.S. He was soon discovered by a sailor who, in an act of generosity, decided to cover for him. Vinya Le Havre is a tribute to this unknown sailor who would change his life forever. Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre Reserva 2022 is ideal for pairing with game meats, such as venison or wild boar.
