Jean Leon Vinya Gigi Chardonnay 2024 is part of the select group of Catalan wines classified as ‘Vi de Finca’, which means it comes from a single vineyard with unique characteristics that grant it great singularity; this is the highest recognition a wine can achieve in Catalonia. The grapes (100% Chardonnay) come from Vinya Gigi, a vineyard planted in 1967, covering 5 hectares with clay-limestone soils where Chardonnay offers a magnificent expression.

The grapes used to produce Jean Leon Vinya Gigi Chardonnay 2024 were harvested manually. Once at the winery, only 60% of the must was used. Alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 16ºC in 225-liter French oak barrels and foudres, followed by malolactic fermentation and finally aging on lees for approximately 6 months in French oak barrels. The resulting wine remained in the bottle for a minimum of 6 months in the winery before its release.

Jean Leon is a ‘boutique winery’ founded in 1963 by Jean Leon in the heart of the Penedès. Jean Leon, of humble origins and born in Santander, emigrated to the United States and managed to open the trendiest restaurant in Hollywood’s golden era: La Scala. His other great dream was to create a wine bearing his name that would meet the standards of his select clientele, and in the heart of Penedès, he found the best land to make it happen. In Penedès, Jean Leon acquired 150 hectares and replaced the local vines with noble French varieties, becoming a pioneer in introducing grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay to Spain. Vinya Gigi was named after Jean Leon’s daughter.
