Javier Sanz Viticultor Verdejo Mágnum 2023 is the flagship and a safe bet of its winery. The purest verdejo is showcased without pretense in a white wine made from vineyards over 40 years old, located in La Seca, the epicenter of the D.O. Rueda. Soils composed of pebbles and clay provided a peculiar mineral touch to the grapes used in its production, with great acidity and aromatic intensity achieved thanks to the continental climate of the area.
To preserve the freshness of the fruits, at Javier Sanz Viticultor, the harvest was planned during nighttime. Once in the winery, the process included fermentation at a controlled temperature to maintain the varietal characteristics; must clarification by gravity; vinification in stainless steel tanks, and aging of the resulting wine on its own lees before bottling. Javier Sanz Viticultor Verdejo Mágnum 2023 is an ideal wine as an aperitif or to accompany seafood, salt-baked fish, ceviches, or shushi.
Bright yellow color in the glass, with slight greenish reflections.
Nose dominated by fresh aromas of sweet grapefruit and pineapple, accompanied by subtle notes of anise and hinojo.
On the palate, it is dry, medium-bodied, and with refreshing acidity.
Led by Javier Sanz, the fourth generation of a family of winemakers, it boasts 104 hectares of its own vineyards distributed across a mosaic of plots located in the Valladolid municipality of La Seca (D.O. Rueda). A significant portion of these vineyards are pre-phylloxera (over 150 years old), inherited from his great-grandfather.
The essence of the wines from Javier Sanz Viticultor lies in the unique approach to viticulture, based on quality guidelines passed down from generation to generation. This care for the family-owned vineyards translates into wines with personality, connecting quality with a distinctive style. The winery produces single-varietal wines with minimal intervention and uses native yeasts.
The verdejos from Javier Sanz Viticultor have received prestigious national and international awards, such as a Zarcillo de Oro, several gold medals at Selections Mondiales des Vins Canada, a gold medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, and other recognitions.
