CVNE, one of the classic Spanish wine firms, expanded its presence in 2017 with the creation of Bela, its winery in Ribera del Duero, located in the Burgos area. Here is born Heredad Arano Crianza 2021, an exceptional Tempranillo of very limited production, originating from old vines and from an Excellent harvest. This red wine comes from high-altitude vineyards and has been aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels.

Heredad Arano Crianza 2021 is made from old tinta del país (tempranillo) vineyards located in Moradillo de Roa (Burgos), an area increasingly valued for its altitude, which reaches 1000 meters. This privileged location allows for a slower ripening of the grapes, resulting in wines with greater freshness and aging potential. The vineyards, owned by the winery, grow on stony soils under a continental climate.
The 2021 vintage has also been rated as Excellent by the D.O. Ribera del Duero, further enhancing the exceptional character of this wine. Regarding its production, the process began with a cold pre-fermentation maceration in stainless steel tanks, followed by alcoholic fermentation. Finally, the wine was aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels, which adds complexity and elegance.
Based in Haro (La Rioja), the origins of CVNE date back to 1879. In 2017, the fifth generation of the founding family decided to establish a foothold in Ribera del Duero. This led to the creation of Bodega Bela, located in Villalba de Duero (Burgos), a winery that pays tribute to the name affectionately used by the family for Sofía, the grandmother of the current owners.
Bodega Bela has 82 hectares of vineyards, mostly of the tinta del país or tempranillo variety, spread across the areas of Villalba de Duero and Moradillo de Roa. The winery produces wines with structure, elegance, and distinction.
The red wine Heredad Arano Crianza 2021 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal to pair with goat stew or lamb stew with potatoes.
Beautiful ripe cherry red color with an intense garnet rim, well-covered layer.
On the nose, it unfolds with great elegance and complexity, offering a wide variety of nuances. The initial aromatic series corresponds to spicy notes (nutmeg and vanilla), followed by balsamic and Mediterranean scrubland memories (rosemary and rockrose). Later, notes of black fruit preserves (blackberries and sloes) become evident, closing with subtle smoky notes, noble woods (cedar), and roasted cocoa notes.
On the palate, it is flavorful, meaty, and well-balanced; it shows a present tannin that blends into the whole, creating a harmonious and lively passage through the mouth. The spicy and soft toasted notes contributed by its time in the barrel are perfectly harmonized by its aging in the bottle. Long and persistent finish where fruity and cocoa notes reappear.
In 2017, the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) fulfilled the desire to honor the founders of the winery from 1879 by launching the Bodega Bela project in one of the most sought-after areas of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin. This winemaking house, far from its native Rioja, began with an exceptional viticultural heritage of 82 hectares of vineyards, mostly of the tinta del país or tempranillo variety, spread across the Villalba de Duero and Moradillo de Roa regions. Two very distinct areas that contribute complementary attributes to the wines: more structure in Moradillo de Roa and more freshness in Villalba de Duero. A venture that was forged after more than a decade of acquiring these coveted vineyards.
Bela was the affectionate nickname given to Sofía, the daughter of CVNE co-founder Eusebio Real de Asúa, and the great-grandmother of the current leaders of the company. It is a cutting-edge winery with a surface area of 6,000 m² and a large barrel room with a capacity for 10,000 casks.
In 2024, it became one of the highlights of the Spanish wine world when the prestigious publication Wine Spectator selected Bela Crianza 2021 as the only Ribera del Duero wine in its Top 100.
In recent years, Bodega Bela has embarked on its adventure in the neighboring D.O. Rueda, where it is producing verdejo whites that are sure to make waves.
